You won't regret Tassie one bit Brian and Lana and I tell you that for free. Probably the only thing that will be free though.
I love the place and been there 3 times now, the last February just gone. Port Arthur and the Gordon River Cruise are a must do. Well worth the $$$$. Put a day aside for each one. As to to the rest of Tassie just go for it. See if you can visit "Fat Pig Farm" south of Hobart, I missed it but would have loved to go there.
Cold? sure will be early on in your trip and will see snow in them there hills for sure. Maybe even some lower levels as well.

Hi B&L , mate you'll love tassie, we went and did a quick 9 day holiday starting at Launceston and going over to the east coast and worked our way down to Hobart , stayed at Hobart 3 nights then over to Port Arthur area for 2 nights.
The scenery is great , and a lot of good food and local ciders to be had !( Willie Smiths Organic Cider was beautiful , cost a bit though lol , and l dont normally drink cider ! )
The Salamanca Market is really good and theres plenty of things to do overall around tassie.
On the way to Strahan there is a carved wall , they say it is magic but we missed it on our trip so will visit next time I am sure ,Queenstown railway is another must see .
Tassy is a magic place - we stayed four months, and loved every minute of it. We went on 1 November and returned 6 March, summer of 2012/13.
Met some great people, members from this site and new friends as well. The Wall that exa41 is talking about is at Derwent Bridge - a man who is an amazing artist has, and still is, carving murals on slabs of Huon pine - his work is amazing!!! The smell of Huon pine when you enter will stay with you for a long time.
So many places to see and things to do - great free camps on beautiful beaches - Cosy Corner North outside of St Helens is where the Bay of Fires is located - and a beautiful spot - St Helens is a nice town, as is Bicheno, both on the East coast - the west is a different story altogether, wilder and windier - but with it's own beauty - Strahan is a nice town, but, depending on whether you are camping, Macquarie Heads is a great little campsite just north of the town.
Towns like Scottsdale, Deloraine, Penguin, Ulverstone, just to name a few, are worth a visit - there is the railway at Don - and of course Port Arthur, Richmond, Hobart itself, so much to see and do - one of the highlights of our trip was snow on Cradle Mountain - on 6th December!!!
