heating

hi guys, for those in a camper-van, what do you do for heating?

I wont do much traveling during winter, maybe the odd weekend or  too but

don't want to be cold at night, what would I do for heating and can I have

an electric blanket in a camper-van??

Nothing against an electric blanket.

I've bought a medium cheap heater from bunnings where I can set up the temperature. Is quiet (in my opinion, because it doesn't wake me up) and it takes 5 minutes after start and the caravan is warm.

Regards, Berni

I've noticed 12v heated "travel rugs" advertised but have no idea how much power they use or whether you could sleep on top of instead of under. If anyone has one perhaps they could give us all the details as I would also be interested.

hi milo , we had had good sucess from our heaters
took a few attempts but this is what we use , a bit different as we live in our van 24/7 we,ve been on the road nearly 2 yrs now , we use A COLUMN OIL HEATER , and A DIESEL HEATER IF REALLY COLD , if your on 240v somewhere in a camper van the oil column heaters are good and effective , cheap too
so good luck , we tried fan heaters = noisy ., portable gas = in our opinion very dangerous ie gases ,

I bought a fleece (artificial) throw rug from Home Art the other day on spesh for $20 and it's as warm as toast. Ultra soft too, and light. You can wear it around your shoulders and walk around the place like a Hollywood dame in a mink, or use it like a blanket. Only takes a few minutes before you feel the warmth.

Have heard the 12v travel rugs were power hungry and pretty ordinary.

Anyone know how much battery power an electric blanket uses if free camping.

Don't use a gas heater in your van as it may be warm and put you to sleep but you may not wake up again.
A good doona as all I have.
An electric battery uses little power if you have good batteries. I think about 60w but someone with one will have to check.

A couple of years ago our trusty small electric fan heater died....purchased a oil column heater next day but found it lacked the desired amount of warmth, so took it back to store for a refund.....got lucky next day at a Salvo Store and purchased a small 2 bar electric heater for $5 bucks, it draws 600 watts per bar so Honda genny will run both or one as desired if away from 240v power......very rarely need more than 1 bar in a 22ft van as it takes very little time to warm up van even in very cold conditions...........mornings are a problem deciding who gets out of bed first to turn heater on, no prizes for guessing who looses out !!
