You're right about a dream... the van is not the only thing that's shattered. I'd be devestated if it happened to my PJ.

Yep, This unfortunate event seems to be happening more and more,

I  think it proves that, it doesn't matter how experienced  one can be with towing a caravan, it can still happen.

Probably the most important thing one can do before traveling is to make sure you have an complete cover on the van,  contents,  and your Tug.

Ring your insurance company  and  make sure you are completely covered in any situation. ???????????

I have found ( after the event ) that in the small print, my 4x4 was not covered if it went off road,

there are many great camp sites around the country but to get to them, one has to drive down some tracks, I E :-  " off road "

Take care out there Folks.

Gday...

I have no idea which insurance company you have KJ or the actual wording they have in the policy about driving "off road".

However, it is usual for insurance companies to make the statement of 'driving off-road' ... but to the best of my knowledge, if you are travelling on a GAZETTED road you should be covered.

Many unsealed roads you would use to get to known camping spots are actually gazetted roads and you should therefore be covered on those.

But again ... read the policy documents very carefully, seek clarification from your insurance company .. and then get it in writing.

cheers - John

I checked my insurance, my 4x4 is covered on named roads as well as un-named tracks, even on the beach and the more pics of wrecked vans I seen the better I feel about getting the ESC system fitted to van.

It is quite scary to see how the entire top structure seems to have lifted off the floor of that Nova van.
