Have you noticed when winter hits in the southern parts of Oz how quiet the forum gets as the Sunseekers that can head for the warmer climes up north?
Although some still keep in touch with the forum, due to coverage in some areas it is limited to when they do get coverage or have the time to do so.....
Hope those who are travelling have a great time, stay safe and enjoy their travels in all that beautiful weather....
it does slow down Vic, especially when the master is away (HW)
"The Master" and the "Crew" she's with, although they still manage to post as does Yeoeleven......great to follow their travels and see the beaut pic's.....
Glad Doug is keeping an eye on you, I believe he is getting a " Wombat scoop" fitted on his new wheels......ooooops, forgot I am not in "I digress"....
I agree Vic many travellers here already and still on the road. (Back on topic)
All you have to do is entice him up your way for a bit of sport.....hope your scoop is strong enough to lift that huge rear end.....oooops, there I go again.
Back OT, I have noticed that some (like me) don't post much when they are away, if at all, usually the same GN's who do. But at least they catch up when they return, LOL !
I see lots of caravans and motorhomes passing through Taree, presumably on their way further north. It's getting a little cooler here now that June is almost here.
Same here in the Perth area Gary, down to 7 degrees tonight, may not sound much but after the much warmer nights the body aint used to it yet.......Need to be Carnarvon area and higher for the nice climes in WA at this time of the year....
Some of us actually go south, to get away from the madding crowds and see what it's like in the cooler climes. We are house-sitting at a small vineyard in the McLaren Vale area of S.A. We are sitting in the lounge with a lovely log fire burning in the combustion stove and the 2 dogs and 1 cat getting as close to the fire as possible (the owners' pets, not ours). Later on we will put them in their run for the night and we will retreat to our fifth wheeler to bed.
The early morning walk with the dogs is a bit challenging after crawling out of our lovely warm bed, but it gets the blood running and it has to be good for us, doesn't it??? Meanwhile the owners are having a ball in Vanuatu, swimming & snorkelling and resting under the coconut palms in the warm sunshine.
From here we will wander around S.A. and may even cross the Nullarbor if it is going to be fine weather, to visit the National Parks near Esperance. All things are possible with a diesel heater and some warm clothes.

Bear in mind that the south/west of WA in winter is very cold and gets a lot of rain, but if you are ok with that then as you say you will miss the "madding crowd". Bitumen road to some of the major National park areas at Esperance, eg; Cape Le Grande etc...Get all info/passes etc from Esperance Tourist Bureau beforehand to see if areas are closed because of flooding/heavy rainfall.
As an aside, Perth gets more rain than Melbourne, not as many rainy days though, Perth gets theirs in heavier downpours when it does rain as opposed to more rainy days with lighter rain in Melbourne, but not as much as Brisbane and Sydney, see;

Yes, we spent a winter in the wheatbelt in 2011 and campground-hosted at Coalseam in August and Stirling Ranges in October before heading back east. We had some very cold and wet weather that year. Then we just ran out of time and could not check out the National Parks in the Esperance area on our way out - a real bummer as we had free entry and camping then as a result of our volunteer hours camp-hosting.
I digress here - for some reason I cannot use "Reply" or "Quote" or "New Topic" as the big text box disappears- only the subject line is visible. The only way I can post is by using the "Quick Reply" down the bottom. A real nuisance.
Not sure why you are having problems with the site Bev, maybe send a pm to the Webmaster (Cindy) to see if she can help.
The area you mentioned in Esperance have camp hosts there so maybe you might be lucky again for the camps you want to go to.
Yes it can get cold in the Stirlings, as you know sometimes they have snow on Bluff Knoll at certain times.
I spoke to the camp hosts in person recently at the Kennedy Ranges (50 kms north of Gascoyne Junction) the were both keen bush walkers and loved it there, they also had a 5th Wheeler....

We are amongst those travelling north/west from NSW to the Northern Territory and currently in Charlieville for a few days, there have been a few days where we could not access the net but when possible we do check in on the forum.
There must be a lot of people on the road as we have not been able to get van sites in caravan parks in St George, or Roma and Charlieville has been fairly full since we arrived a couple of days ago, to play safe we have booked for a week in Longreach and I am going to ring Blackall this afternoon to make sure we can get a site
Hope to see a few of you out here in the Playground

Although busy, sounds like the place to be. If still in Charlieville, go to the museum (the old house) and see if the old fellow who is one of the volunteer workers there still plays the Harpsicord (spelling) to tourists who go there. This was taken in 2010.
Thanks for the feedback on your travels.

This bloke reckoned that Dolly Parton had visited the museum, apparently she is an accomplished player of the Harpsichord instrument, don't know when that would have been though...

I have seen her play that on TV, so he is not fibbing.
