Electrical wiring help

We have a rear view camera on the van which is hard wired and uses RCA plugs to connect to the tug but I am constantly having trouble with this connection so I am thinking about running wires from van and tug through the 12 pin plug do you think there will be any issues with this or is there a better way to do this.

Thanks

I understand that has been done.
If you have spares in the 12 pin preferably away from powered connections or at least insulated from them with neutral cure silicone you should be ok.

If you want to go to the expense there are weatherproof signal connectors available. Have a look at Jaycar

You can bye what they call a waza cable , it has bigger fittings than the standard camera lead, similar to a small trailer connector, check this pic out, you get two fittings that this cable connects to and your fittings fit into them as well.

Had a similar problem with the rca's. I run the 12 pin flat plug & I do have some circuits doubbled as in elect brakes as I had the small terminal of a 7 pin burn a bit.

also doubbled the earth & access for the van fridge etc, now no probs.

With most of the 12 pin in use I fitted a 7pin male & female  & run the power + & - along with the video + & - through this plug. It also eliminated some electrical interferance from the elect brakes. There is still enough room that I can connect the audio as well should I decide to at a later date.

KFT & aussietraveler check out the wozo cable from safetydave.

I have this for my rear view camera and have not had any issues as they are water proof.

More picks Frank

The socket that the woza lead goes into has about one meter of lead, that is where your camera lead joins

I always carry a can of contact cleaner. Had same problem until started spaying connectors with the contact cleaner into the plugs and sockets. Gets a bit of corrosion which the camera reception does not like.
