Grawin Caravan Camping

Gday...

I read an article recently about the Lightning Ridge and Grawin Opal fields. The author apparently had stayed at the free caravan camping area behind the Glengarry Hilton at Grawin. I spent a day at and around Grawin back in 2010 and never noticed a free camp.

Has anyone stayed there? How much room for a 23ft van? Do they have a time limit on the stay?

I had googled Grawin and found the Glengarry Hilton email address (2 actually) but despite sending three emails over the past month they have yet to respond. confuse

Cheers - John

Hi John,

We stayed at Sheepyard Inn last Sept.

There is free camping at the Hilton, Grawin Pub in the Scrub and Sheepyard Inn.

We choose Sheepyard as it was recommended by a "miner" we met on the way and it has hot showers.

It is definitely a fascinating place.

If you are on Facebook there are some pics on our page

If you'd like some more info let me know

Cheers

Chris

Sorry John
Didn't answer your main question.
It might be a little tight getting in to Sheepyard with a 23ft van but the Pub in the Scrub would probably be accessible.
Give them a ring http://www.theclubinthescrub.com.au/index.html

Unless you have an off road van, I would'nt recommend the Pub in the Scrub as the drive in (at least a couple of weeks ago) is in very poor condition. The other places are not too bad.  There are also plenty of side tracks suitable for overnighting in the Grawin area.
