Maybe it might be just as cheap to have a patio type roof carport with higher clearance built alongside it or on the other side of the house? Or even the front of the house if you can't use the sides ????
I don't think I would tamper with the house roof extension carport, I would rather leave the RV outside than do that.
Just a thought, and good luck with your search for a new van. Take your time and have it checked out thoroughly when you are ready to get one though.

yep i know what you mean!! I have the same problem at home and no way will a full size van fit under our carport. So the only thing we have done is to have a pop top caravan and it just fits and have a clearance of about 6 " and even less now that i have fitted solar to the top of the roof of the caravan as well. The wife at first said that the caravan that we were thinking of purchesing would not fit, so to cut a long story, we had the caravan company bring the new caravan around and see if it would fit through the carport and then in to our out side entertainment area. I told the wife ( Minister of finance ) that IF the caravan would not fit under we would keep our camper van, and guess what.....It fitted.
On a nother note, most carports have to be a certain height and most pop top caravans are built are desighned to fit under with a bit of clearace. So have a look at some of the pop tops that are on the market, take a few mesurements and finaly befor you sighn anything see if the caravan will fit were you want to store it.
Any half decent caravan retailer would be more than happy to bring a caravan around to you place and try to see if it would fit , after all you would not buy a pair of shoes with out first 'trying them on'.

We had similar issues with a 7' 2" carport opening.
Our solution was this - http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t57196896/the-eagle-has-gone-and-now-barry-has-got-the-bullet/
It may not suit you but we thinks it's a little Cracka! and will do us just nicely. But just in case it's a "Crusader Bullet 151" we bought it in Adelaide but at the time there were a couple advertised around the country.
The problem has to be a common one and I'm sure other vans could be found to suit you.
Good luck hunting mate

Will have to wait a while to see any way what I'm doing...
Take your time Milo and consider all the options, take some measurements in the meantime and carry them around with you in your wallet so if you see something you can compare the height. Either keep a tape in the car or ask the dealer to use theirs (or ask them to do it for you).
Thanks Vic41. I couldn't find a "insert hyperlink" button.
There are a couple of different ways of doing it Kendo, what I did in your case was quote your post, then put the mouse cursor behind you link and hit the space bar once to move it along and it turns "blue" (clickable), then submit.
For your own post you can do the same when you make your post, if the link isn't showing blue before you submit, do the same thing....hope that helps..did you see the bit about the galah's ? A bloke in a cp at Alice Springs showed me that hint....worked for me they don't like the light on them. Sorry for the OT Milo.....

Hi Milo , the other option ( which l"m considering ) is cutting the slab in the carport and excavate and re cement to allow the caravan to fit under .
Yours looks like it has brick walls , so you'd have to take that into consideration as well as the lay of the land around it for drainage etc..... mines raised about 300/400mm above the natural grond level so should work out ok if l go this route.
the other option ( if the van you like is full size and wont /cant be stored at your place ) is find a shed somewhere that can store your van safely for a small weekly rent , here in Ballarat l have a friend that owns a huge industrial shed and he's letting out space for caravan storage @$25 a week and has quite a few there already .....i'm sure you could find secure storage somewhere
