Heading from Proserpine to Cairns Looking for places to pull up

Hi everyone, young family travelling round Oz currently going from Proserpine to Cairns maybe to Cooktown, finding it hard to find many free camping spots in QLD so thought I would ask if anyone lives along this route if there is room in the front or backyard for us to pull into for a night or two - happy to stay on farms and lend a hand or out the front of a house for just one night.

I tried looking on here at the budget/free camping spots but since I do not know many of the areas its hard to know which ones lay along my route so thought I would just ask the question directly (and looking to stay out the back of someones house is not really a camp spot!)

The van is about 22ft long internal if that helps to give an indication of size, we dont require water or power or anything like that. It would be good if we can stay for a few nights in suitable spots to give us a chance to unhitch the van and spend a day looking around the local areas then getting some sleep before heading off the next day but as I said one night stays would be of help as well.

Hope to see some of you out there on the road.

James

might be worthwhile buying a Camps Australia book.

Hi James

Bluewater, approx 30kms north of Townsville has a good free camp area...toilets, showers etc.
Happy travelling!
