As most of you know just on twelve months ago my mother passed away (25 May), and a couple of weeks later something strange started to happen.
The first occasion was around 2pm when our front door bell started playing a different tune, and no one at the door! Pete was home and heard it too.
On three subsequent times - all in the middle of the night - the same thing happened, all with a different tune.
We were not home around the date of her birthday in October so don't know if it happened again, however .......
At 1am Saturday morning (day before Mothers Day) both Pete and I were awakened by the doorbell going off again, this time with a dixie tune! And blow me down, if at mid-day today, Mothers Day, off it went again - playing Dixie!
OK, I can accept that Mum may have been 'lost' in the beginning, but does she need to remind me that it's Mothers Day?
Oh, just a side line - when she was sick after heart surgery, my father rigged up a wireless door bell for her to ring if she wanted him for anything if she was lying down, and we now have it as our house front door bell as we didn't have one. Like all door bells it normally plays a 'normal' tune at all other times!
At least we can laugh about it, and daren't tell the rest of the family, but it's strange, very strange!! Any thoughts???

That has just bought to mind when my mum died many moons back now she was having a shower, one of the older ones over the bath and felt light headed so sat on the edge of the bath where she died 5 minutes later.
I got the call and went to dad and he told me what had happened and the time NOW the strange thing was, as it turned out I was having a shower that morning and felt light headed so got out and sat on the edge of the bath next to the shower, what's strange about that I hear you say. It was the exact time as mum.
When dad died many years later he was pushed into a wall by accident, yep you guessed it, I had the same thing happen to me at the same time. Both accidents.
It doesn't stop there. I woke up at 1.00am one night 6 years ago with a fright. Three hours later I answered a knock at the door and two police officers were there. My son had died in an accident at 1.00am.

Not quite twelve months ago my wifes sister passed away. We had been staying with her for awhile but had to come back to Adelaide for my appointment . Wifes sister didn't have much time left, so we told her we will be straight back once Dr out of the way' she told us to go and if she got any worse she would let us know in time to get back.
We arrived home on Tuesday went to Drs on Wednesday with intension of going back to Victoria on the Saturday. On the Friday at 8mins past 5 am my wifes mobile started playing this tune' music that we have never heard before in our lives very Angelic' we both got out of bed and went down to the lounge roon and found the room lit up by the phone music still playing, we just stood there unable to speak.
We then thought it was a message from wifes sister so took the dog to daughters place and left, we got as far as Mildura when we got phone call from her husband to say she has only around 2hrs left in this world.
She came to say goodbye.
Wow!! Sounds like a very similar situation Tomzys, and I was just thankful that Pete heard it too otherwise he might have sent me to the loony bin! But at least we can have a laugh and we did wish her a Happy Mother's Day!

Pejay, you said your doorbell is a wireless one, with a separate speaker thingy.
Ours is one of those and the doorbell rings at odd times with different chimes from the one we had it set to. Turns out that they pick up a signal from another wireless doorbell in the neighbourhood? Mr D fixed ours by changing the frequency.
I prefer the idea of "Mum visiting".
So sorry to hear about your son Doug, that isn't supposed to happen! We are sort of prepared to lose our parents, but ....
And I've had similar to those experiences of yours when someone close died. I think they might be paying a quick visit at the time to say goodbye.
