After many years of not appealing to younger war veterans and ex ADF members, there has been a renewed interest in the WA Branch of the RSL since Graham Edwards was elected President. Prior to this many disenchanted members had formed there own Associations. The WA Branch under Graham's leadership is in the throws of being overhauled to appeal to all veterans of past and present conflicts. See;
Some of you may recall the incident at Newcastle RSL where a WW2 Veteran was banned from the RSL because they found out he had voted for an Australian Republic in the 1999 Referendum as they deemed this was "unpatriotic".
Well this should make for interesting times ahead as Graham Edwards is also a member of the Australian Republican Movement on a personal level, so I can't see anyone being banned from the RSL in WA for their personal views on a Republic or other issue to do with politics, religion or race according to their constitution.
As an aside supporters for a Monarchy or Republic come from all side of politics and walks of life and is a personal choice of the individual involved.
