Weight distributing bars. Practical??

I have just purchase some weight distributing bars. (17.5' Jayco and Mitsubishi Triton.) They were fitted by a dealership and do make the van and ute very level.

Having read the manual when I got home, I find that they dont like driveways, sharp turns, rough ground.  Just how practical are they? I mean, do I have to jump out of my vehicle and take them off, every time  I want to turn into say a petrol station or pull into a van park etc? What about speed humps..roundabouts etc.

Hi Collo

what they mean by turning is very very sharp, turning into servos or reversing into a van sight is not a problem, unless it is really sharp to get into then remove the WDH you can drive over speed humps but take it slowly ,if your van sight has an upgrade and the bars look like digging in remove them, normal driving should not be a problem, you will find once you have driven a few KM you won't tow without them.

Collo, any minor clunk etc on a tight corner etc is a very small price to pay for a major safety accessory . I use mine everywhere till I unhook.John

Collo, you may remove some of the clunks by greasing the pivot point on the hitch. I always remove mine when entering a C/P whilst the other half is checking in. Put the on once out of my site. As moamajohn said, it is a very important safety accessory. Would not tow without them and don't expect anyone else not to tow without them. And as Olley46 said, once your are used to them you wont tow without them.

Practicality does not come into the equation. Safety first.

I've got the shepherds crook bars ( 4 off) and read somewhere you should remove them as you explain, but never have and never had a problem. They sure level the van/vehicle and stop pitching.
