As much as I hate politicians, it would appear that British politicians have their pay set by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.

www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-23122630 (1 July 2013)

"Speaking in Islamabad, David Cameron said that any such proposal [for a significant increase in the pay of ordinary backbench MPs] 'would be unthinkable unless the cost of politics was frozen and cut'"

"Ed Miliband has urged IPSA to set pay in the light of public sector settlements. Nick Clegg has also urged restraint.

However, no party leader has the power to block the recommendations of the independent regulator, nor are MPs meant to vote on the matter."

"This year and next MPs have had a 1% pay rise. In the two years before that their pay was frozen. Ministers had a 5% pay cut."

BTW, the most significant item of business on 11/07/2013 appears to have been a debate on parliamentary consent for arming anti-Government forces in Syria:

Yes, but what would we do if all the cages at the zoo were empty?

It's interesting the current Fed Govt tells people they have to work to 70 in about 10 years. I wonder if they'd expect their parents, or if they themslvess are prepared to work to that age? Maybe if the pollies took a pay cut the budget would recover quicker. they seem to want to fix things left by the ALP all at once in the first year. Once again they hit the wrong sector of society. Those who earn more than $100,000 need to pay more tax and the tax lurks need to be sorted out so we all pay our share.

All they have to do is remove all payments (excluding super) from all past politicians. Bring their super in line with everyone elses and get rid of the " until I die" benefits. I think their super is around 1 in 8, they put in a dollar "we" put in the rest, go figure. Accountability would be another, Rudd and Gillard would be in jail now, pink bats, drowning at sea, don't have any more of that anymore.

Hi all,
Just a friendly reminder that we don't allow discussions about politics on the forum.  In our experience, politics often leads to bad feelings and we would like to keep our forum as a positive and welcoming place.
Thanks for your understanding.
