Ellendale Pool is about 45km south of Geraldton on Ellendale Road, via Walkaway. The last 100m of road are dirt but are suitable for 2WD vehicles and caravans.
We camped here over Easter in the top area which was fairly flat gravel. A fair bit of shade during the day, although it was very windy in the afternoon usually dieing off in the evening. The lower area near the river didn't seem to get the wind.
Gas BBQs, flushing toilets one with a cold shower outside to rinse off with. Dump point and water tap in the top camp area. Also taps out side the toilet blocks. Playground equipment for the kids.
The tap water was clear with nothing showing in it. I used it for dishes and showers. The warning signs are still in place about the river for Amoebic Meningitis. Didn't seem to affect the locals jumping from the rock ledge and rope swings. Water was very cold/refreshing. We used the kayak's and had a swim with head above water. No problems.
I drove into Geraldton for a look at the War Memorial, well worth the visit. Spent a couple hours wandering around Greenough Historical Village and part of the Greenough/Walkaway Heritage Trail, including the Hampton Arms.
The Tap Water is water pumped from the Farm House on the left as you drive into the Pool and is Good Quality Bore Water. We had no problems with using it in our tanks for the 3 weeks we have camped there off and on this year.I was told this by a Local West Aussie who camps there every year, great value for $5 a night.
Cheers Kev.
