I came here as a 14 year old 10 pound pom in the late 60,s and had similar lines yelled at me by stone throwing local youths that were raiding the hostel we were staying at.

I guess after almost 50 years either I assimilated or the focus is always on the current group trying to settle here.

Most immigrants really are trying to make a better life.. its the few radicals in all cultures that cause us all grief.

It constantly intrigues me how some things I post, that I think are positive comments about our lifestyle - or a wry glance at the ironies of our lifestyle, seem to end up wandering all over places I would never have envisaged.

I only posted it to remind US .... that Straya is the best place and Strayans are the best mob. I never thought about how it would become a negative to migrants thread. I have many friends who are migrants, first, second and third generations, and they are some of the best Strayans I know.

There is no better way of life in the world than that of the Australian. I firmly believe this. Having travelled Europe, North and south America, Africa and Asia I can whole heartily agree that Australia is one very lucky country and a great place to be.

Who are this "latest bunch of arrivals", its those bloody kiwi's again (http://blog.rpdata.com/2013/06/where-are-the-migrants-to-australia-coming-from/) setting up their all black, silver fern enclaves across the county in such numbers as to totally swamp the true blue Aussies and destroy our beer swilling, pie eating, holden loving culture and replacing it with weird activities with some of the local fauna. Yep, you're dead right Dazren we should be concerned at this threat to what we are as Aussies and we should rise up and protest and send in the Navy and the air force to turn the buggers back before we all start talking funny.

Sometimes it takes the second or third generations to become Aussiefied but it happens eventually. Aussieficaton is something everyone finds irresistible sooner or later. One good example of that is our federal treasurer.

It can be very hard to forget in a short time the unpleasant memories and experiences you have had in a lifetime. we have to give these latest immigrants time to adjust and as previously stated there are a small number who create trouble but the vast majority make model citizens and we benefit from their culture by picking up on the positives and incorporating them into our lifestyles.

I love Asian food and Italian coffee so lets give them a chance and enjoy the positives they bring and at the same time show them our ways and what we believe is acceptable in our great country.
