I recently traveled from Tasmania to Brisbane and used the Newell Highway. It was a fast trip over 3 days. After leaving Greens Lake, I knew I had a minor fuel (diesel) leak and decided to have it looked at along the track. On arrival at Gilgandra NSW on Sunday March 23, the fuel leak was rather significant so I decided to have it repaired in this town. I went to the Showgrounds intending to stay the night. A sign at the entrance gave a telephone number to call. The person I spoke to quoted $10.00 for an unpowered site, $15.00 for powered. I inquired about a local mechanic. He pointed me to a truck mechanic about 200 meters along the road, so I decided to look for the workshop before settling into the Showground. The mechanic happened to be in the workshop and said he would fix the leak early next morning. He had a very large property and I asked if I could park on his land overnight to which he agreed.
Next morning early, he looked at the leak, sent some 2.5 hours on the job and supplied and fitted a compression fitting. As the two pipes to be joined were plastic, he made up an inner metal tube sleeve, and installed the compression fitting.
At the end of the job, expecting to pay over $200.00, he said Just give me $40.00. Apart from the low cost, I was more than impressed with the mans attitude, and quality of the work performed. If ever you pass thru Gilgandra NSW and need work on your RV, I highly recommend this Mechanic.
