Our 2012 Cape York trip

http://bkmcl.wordpress.com/2013/03/12/our-trips-from-24-2-13/#

To read about this trip in 2012 plus a few of our 2009 trip photos open the 1st blog on the right about where I had to do a trial run as was having trouble posting. These are the first 7 with more to come. Hope you enjoy it. Bought back great memories for me but was a little hard remembering at times as do not have diary with me.

Well worth doing, please keep up the entries - both current and of previous travels.

Looking at your Palm Creek photos, I am so glad that we travelled Cape York back in 1998 - before it became over run with some of the idiots shown in your photos. Palm Creek was "interesting", even back then - but quite do-able by us as solo travellers. It was simply crawl down and crawl up the other side. We did nearly come to grief though; at the top of the north bank, the Driver got out of Truck, to look back down at what he'd just climbed - and forgot to put the handbrake on!! We just wanted the experience, when we did the OTL track then. Doing it didn't have all that gungho stuff it seems to have today. We never had any intention of trying the then gungho Gunshot Creek. Saw some wonderful scenery, which was the point of the exercise. Most of the time, we saw few other travellers. Guess we were lucky, then.

I have been doing a similar blog exercise. I am lucky in that I do keep a paper diary of travels, so blog is really just copying that and incorporating photos. Like you, I find doing this is bringing back wonderful memories. But I am not sure how far to go back, in terms of readers being interested and learning about places.

Some time ago, I transcribed my diaries of our 3 years full time on the road - 1998-2000, into Word format, and added scanned photos, then printed it all out as a "book" for family and friends to read. It ran to an awful lot of pages!! But friends have enjoyed reading it, and we often go back and re-read it ourselves.

For contrast, some '98 Palm Ck pics. Is the change just due to increased travel volume - or to the idiot effect??

Hi Oma

I traveled up to the tip about 2 weeks after your trip in 2012. Your blog is very good and certainly brought back some memories for me. I traveled in a group of 4 vehicle's and we did the telegraph track which was fun and a bit scary at times ( like Nolans Brooke with chest deep water ) . We had a great time camping and exploring the Cape.

Regards

Ashley

Thanks for the post Oma.

I just scanned the first bit.  Enjoyable reading.  I have saved the URL for a full reading later today.

We don't do dirt in our van ... not set for it & it is not our thing, but I really enjoy reading about the adventures of others.

Do you have a generally available blog Wendyv?

Cupie,
have two blogs on blogspot - the links are listed under my name in posts.
It is a bit awkward to move from one to the other, directly - can be done by clicking on the John and Wendy heading at the right, to move between them. That is why I have listed them separately.
Think it happened becauese I started a blog in 2009, when we were travelling with van and 4WD. That is the wenjon one. Then, this year, somehow (don't ask me!) when I blogged our first trip with bus, it went with the wendyviney identity.
So - wendyviney is 2013 trip with bus to Far North Qld.
Wenjon is 2009 to similar area; 2010 to Gawler Ranges and Eyre Peninsula, and I am part way through entering 2007 to SA, NT, WA.

Hope you can access them!
