Jurgen caravans

well thought we had made up our mind then went to van show on sunny coast and come across these, namely the jurgen  lunagazer 20"6 . spent hour or so going over it went looking at the others and came back to it, wife loves it. I can only tow 25000ks and 250 ball weight So these fit the bill. if anyone has one would to love to hear what u have to say.

We too were impressed with the Jurgens, but eventually didn't buy

a) because I hated the travel blanket,

b) because of the very short A frame and difficulty making tight turns and

c) it was way too close to our tow limit.

I was in Esk just before Xmas and there were two different models one a year older than the other staying in the park. I was talking to one of the owners and the other owner came along and were comparing the small differences between the two vans. It was very apparent that both were very happy with the Lunagazers. What I saw were two very comfortable vans that both owners were very happy with. Good looking vans that towed well they told me.

Thanks for u'r replays Rosie and Guru. I am not to worried about the short drawbar and think the blanket is a good idea from stone chips but could be a pain to open all the time.
Cheers OMD

In my personal opinion they are light years ahead of any of the other Euro style vans.
Originally developed in South Africa proven over many years on their roads.
Now proving themselves on our roads.
The newer models have a stronger drawbar (than earlier models) and will now take heavier ball weights and a WDH.

Have had our Lunagazer for two and half years now and traveled 40 000 trouble free kilometers.  Very happy with the van.

When I took mine in for a service from the distributor, they said they have no problems with Jurgens, everything stays square nothing out of align like other vans.

My parents have a single axle Jurgen and are mostly really impressed with it. The only component they've identified as not being on a par with the rest of the unit is the tail lights, which have the lamps mounted along a spring plate of some sort. It's certainly a lightweight design but they have found that it's become unreliable after very few years, and is fiddly to work with (e.g. in process of getting one lamp working you can easily disable another). I don't know what tail light design the latest models use, but if I was them I'd have replaced or re-engineered the factory tail lights.

Few more questions for u lunagazer owners, would u or do u do any rough stuff not full off rd but rough gravel rds and would u take it to birdsville or the likes. Salesman said no worries but he is a salesman. We so nearly brought one today but still need to do a little more home work.

Hi OMD,

Took our van into 80 Mile Beach last year. We went in and out there twice which would be 40 Klms all up of very dusty, bad  corrugated road. All hung together well and nothing fell off and only had dust come up through a gas vent under the fridge which was covered up for other trips in and out and the vent in lower door covered up and no dust problems.

Spoke to them at Jurgens factory when passing through Melbourne and mentioned about taking the van into Birdsville and said it wouldn't be a problem, just drive to the conditions. Have a look at the Jurgens web site and see the video clip with the Jurgens Lunagazer being tested on the torture track.

Hi

We have had two lunagazers a J2401 2010 then the J2403 came out and we liked the lay out so brought that in 2013 done 20000 km in first one had some issues with air conditioning noisy but that was fixed by Dometic no problems with the van itself.

Have done about 10000 km in the new one and all is going great tows like a dream and no water leaks etc we like the look at the van. we have not had it on really rough roads we have done mainly trips on the black top. As far as the front cover it is great I have had the two vans covering 30000 km and not one mark on the front of any of them with the covers you only fit it on to go for a trip then leave it on for the whole trip as it has zips for front window and boot I only remove it after rain and when stored out side as if it gets wet under cover then needs to be dried out But great vans if you like them then buy one you wont be disappointed.

OMD, I have had my Lunagazer for almost 3 years and have towed it over 20,000 km without a problem. Most of that distance has been on the black top but it has done some graded gravel roads.

I would recommend two things that you should demand if you are going to order the van. Tell the Dealer they are deal breakers.

1. Ask for an extra 100 kg carrying capacity - increase ATM by 100 kg
2. DEMAND a current weighbridge certificate before you make the final payment and make sure the Tare Weight indicated on the compliance plate is very similar to the WB Certificate.

If I was to buy another Lunagazer, and I am very happy with mine, I would walk away if those 2 issues were not met.

PM me if you would like more information.

Douglas, you obviously have had the same problem that we have had with our 2012 Sungazer. The tare weight is 178 kg more than the weight on the van info plate, so payload is reduced from 300kg to 122 kg. (Public Weighbridge with nothing in the van and all water and gas removed.) Jurgens don't reply to me. Did you come up with any solution?
