BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE...

Hi all,

I have to have more surgery on my nose. They didn't get it all. There was a SCC and a BCC and they got all the SCC but not all the BCC. Naturally it was a big shock to me. Luckily my second son had driven me in, and was out in the waiting room. I got the nurse to call him in, as I was a blubbering wreck. Not only was it good to have him there to hold my hand, but also to listen to what the registrar was saying. It just wasn't all sinking in for me.

I go back on Tuesday to meet with the Registrar and the Consultant to discuss what's to be done. There will definitely have to be more surgery. Deeper, I think, not wider. And this time they'll take the graft from my forehead, so there is 'live' skin to replace it. (It works better if it's live.) It may take a few goes of plastic surgery to make it 'nice'. Luckily I gave up vanity a long time ago.

I found all this out yesterday when I went back to get the dressings off and find out about the Pathology results. This graft, from my neck, has been done well, but it's certainly yucky to look at. I won't post a photo.

To add to my upset, the UC has flared up again. (Not surprising.) Well it never really came good after I finished the last round of Prednisone in early Feb. So I've put myself back onto Prednisone, and I'll have to inform my Gastro Specialist of this new turn.

Many thanks to my GN friends who've kept me in their thoughts. I'm not a religious person as such, but I believe in the power of prayer/positive thoughts/spiritualism or whatever your 'thing' is, so please keep it going for me.

Aw Beth.....

Cup is always half full girl.... despite all maybe the surgeon will do a few extra tugs and pulls this time, a facelift to make you young and beautiful.

Always praying for good things for you.

You are right Beth, prayer and positive thoughts are the best path .... just know that  you will be in our thoughts and prayers until you are back on your feet again and heading out into the wide open spaces .....   Take care ...

No wonder you were a blubbering mess!!! Lucky your son was there for you. Take care, it will all come out right, and, as you say, vanity is nothing compared to health. Positive thoughts to you.

And I've just read this thread too Beth (also been off air). Our prayers go out to you. They can do amazing things these days. A friend had his whole nose re-made and you wouldn't know it now. Better that they act now. All the very best.

Thanks neilnruth.

Well, after seeing the plastic surgeon today, I'm even more frustrated and bamboozled.

checking those pathology results and will get back to me. IF pathology is correct, I'll need to have Radiotherapy or they'll need to take my whole nose!! That'd be their last resort. He has great faith that the radium will work well.

I'm not partial to either choice. So I'm hoping pathology got it wrong.

Keep up the positive thoughts for me my friends. smile

G'day Beth, no matter how bad things look, there is always something positive to look forward to. In your case, medical technology is moving forward rapidly and if you do have to under go more radical surgery, there is the promise of the quote below for you to aim for.  Stay positive, look for answers and you will find them. Small changes in your life can make big differences, look for the little things to change so they have big positive impacts for you and give you the strength to move forward.

Take care and stay strong.

"In China, doctors were able to regrow a mans nose. The twist is that they had to temporarily put the nose on the mans forehead.

The patient identified as Xiaolian, according to Reuters, had an infection that left his nose damaged and disfigured.

To help him, doctors used tissue expanders and reshaped a second nose over a period of months on Xiaolians forehead. Eventually, when surgery is performed, theyll use cartilage from his rib to help strengthen his nose.

Dr. Patrick Byrne, the director of Facial, Plastic and Reconstruction Surgery at Johns Hopkins Medical Center, said in the future he expects that doctors will transition to fully lab-grown organs.

[We could] take a skin sample and some cells from the patients DNA and cartilage and use those cells to grow entire structure prior to reimplantation, Byrne said."

Ironically, but I read that article before I found out the extent of the damage. As a woman, I guess I'm a little concerned about how it'll look when it's all done, but really, that's a minor issue. It's more important to me that they stop that tenticle going any further into the nerve.

I do meditation, positve thinking etc and it certainly does help. I feel reassured that they're now moving quickly on this, but still feel a little angry at the year long wait. This extra stress could have been prevented.

Thanks native pepper.
