Hi every one. You guys could be able to help. We need to know a route camping in between, from lakes entrance to Port macquarie. We would like to avoid Sidney and new castle if we can. We go may. Cheers!
Depends how far out of the way you want to go.
If you follow the M7 onto the M1 you don't actually go through Sydney - you stay on the freeway.
Alternately you can leave the freeway at campbelltown and go via Penrith/Windsor.
As for Newcastle you don't go anywhere near the 'busy' section. From the end of the M1 to the Pacific Hwy is only a few k's and not to much traffic.
Other than that you need to go via New England Hwy which is a long way round.
Personally, I avoid Wollongong too so don't use the Princes Hwy.
I would go across to the Hume, and follow it all the way north to the M2 and M7. Unfortunately there is about 10-15 minutes of non-freeway till you get from the end of the motorway to the F3 (now M1). but its multilane and so just try to go through not at peak time (we do it lunch time or Sat pm or Sunday).
Follow the M1 to Newcastle (west of Newcastle really) and the follow the Pacific Hwy signs north through Hexham and Raymond Terrace.
Worst bit is the 10 minutes through Sydney, just pick a "quiet time" drive steady and stay in your own lane. Give plenty of notice for a lane change.... or follow a big truck easiest.
Hi Saltel, I am leaving Penrith in the morning and will be doing that 10-15 km Rosie talked about and it is busy any time of day but easy, just keep an eye out and look ahead. As for, from Lakes, I have gone hwy 1 to just above Woolangong then across to Hume and up from there, again as Rosie said.
Easy as.

We overnight at Jugiong or Gunning... be early in Gunning it fills up, but my preference is Jugiong- huge area, nice spots by the river and a bakery across the road !
Central Coast has hundreds of lovely places ! Lake Macquarie and Newcastle too! very pretty places, good food and nice part of the world.
If you're not in a hurry swing through Cessnock and the wine country- the new road makes it a good quick drive.
Also if you're taking it easy take the Lakes Way near Nabiac and swing through Forster and Tuncurry.
Shame to go too quickly through this part of the world.
