We are down in Melb cleaning out mums house.
She has recently gone into Aged Care in Mornington.
Thankfully dad left mum well provided for.
Don't know how we would cope otherwise
In our area, or aged and dependent care facilities are free, they have a few self contained units, share units, inside full care as well as hospital section. It was going to be doubled in size, but the community said no and wanted aged home care which is lots cheaper and allows people to stay in their homes until death. They have maintenance people who go round to the peoples houses and fix things for them, as well as a community transport service which take people to the city for appointments, to shop or have some fun. Much different to the cities, my old mate of 89 gets a lift to the club every day and back, also goes to the city to shop, gets pissed forgets what he was there to buy, except beer. Now they make him bring a list, then the driver normally shops for him and drops him at his favorite pub. All this is done by volunteers and the community nursing service.
Found over the years it's pretty much the same in lots of country area's especially small communities, where everyone looks after each other.
