Vast Sat system not working. Help please

I keep getting a fault notification saying LNB shorted, replace or seek technical assistance.

I have replaced the LNB &checked all cabling for continuity,

Renewed my access registration.

Can anyone put me on the right track?

Thanks in advance

Pete

Ah I know what you are going through.

I thought I was smart in connecting quicker,,, ie I took shortcuts IT DOESN'T WORK.

You MUST connect some (I won't be so bold as say all) receivers  in the correct SEQUENCE.

I was selecting power ON before I connected all cables to save time ie I powered the TV up, VAST box up and want outside and connected cables and tried to tune,,,NO way would it work.

Result same/similar problem to yours.

Suggest read the manual for yours and connect in sequence suggested and POWER ON LAST.

Hope this helps

Cheers Baz

Hi;

Check with a digital meter and check to see if you have 13 volts at the end of the coax cable be for you connect it to the LMB. No voltage at the end of your coax, you may have a short in your coax cable, you could have a splitter in the coax line some where ( most  only power pass to one point ). Try and replace the coax cable with a new length and see of you then see 13  volts at the end of your new cable.

Try and measure the voltage at the receiver end, where the coax joins on to the internal tuner, again you should see 13 volts ( this voltage is used to power the LMB and is also used to set the polarity of the received signal, there are both horizontal and vertical signals ). Maybe some one has been ham fisted with the F connector connection at the  receiver and broken the internal connection ( hope not ).

Once you have set the cordinants of the dish, direction, elevation and skew, you have to put your receiver on to CH 800. IF every thing is set correctly your receiver will pick up the imformation channel. THEN and only THEN to you contact Sattv and give them the serial and card numbers.

NO CHANNEL 800, recheck alll of the above. You could also have a faulty LMB and the easy way to find out is to replace it, cost of a new LMB about $40.00

I get the same notification that the LNB is shorted, replaced LNB and re made a length of RG6 quad with compression connectors (its worth the extra expense) couldnt get a bean when I tried to set up the dish. I will turn everything off this time, set up the whole system and power up... Watch this space........

As far as I know the issue with powering up last is to prevent that powered cable shorting out on any connections being made.  If you are not very careful to ensure that the centre wire goes into it's hole without touching the earth side a short can occur blowing a fuse or needing a breaker reset at best, cooking the box at worst.

Always connect the cables THEN turn on the box.

Well that is one problem (shorting) but not with our VAST box it is the connection first then power or it doesn't work.

Seems this is a common problem with connections.
