Hi Loulybelle: - It all depends on what type of camping you do.
If you free camp it would be a advantage if you want to watch tv, on the other hand using caravan parks with powered sites it wouldn't be necessary.
The only other alternative is a generator or a 12v to 240v power inverter.
Cheers - John

A Good quality 240v TV which has a Low Power consumption will out preform a 12v TV.. Plus they are cheaper than a 12v TV..

I have a small 24" TV/DVD combo in the bus at the moment and I'm running that and a Full Gaming spec Laptop[150w] on a 300 watt + a 4" fluro no worries.. and they say Fluro's are an issue for inverters..

So save your money and get an Cheap Efficient 240v TV and use that..

I have a 22 inch tv and a boosted aerial, and it draws about 3.5amps at 12v. Tv, a kogan, cost about $140, and the aerial $30. Both work well. Bill

Don't forget to find a free camp that has TV reception, otherwise a 12v tv may not be of much use.

Personally I have a Teac TV/DVD 23" LED that runs off of a transformer down to 12 Volt. Cost $320 at a major retailer.

If I'm on 240 I just use the normal plug  but free camping I can bypass that and go to the 12 Volt  supply.

Never had a problem and I run a VAST satellite system converted to 12 Volt. Now you can buy the VAST receiver with both 12 Volt and 240 Volt.

Choice is yours 12 Volt or 240 there are benefits with both. Never had any picture problems with 12 Volt and the new generation TV"s seem to pull in the signal better than ever before.

I have heard of some problems with some types of LED's causing interference if close to the TV but I  have had no problems myself.

Pretty much all flat screen tvs less that 24" run on a 12v input.  The 240v (230V actually) cord has a 'brick' inline that steps down the voltage to 12v.

You can make a direct 12 cord to suit your 12 power plug.

Both our cheap 240v TV's have a socket for 12v. Used to run them through a small inverter, then just bought a 12v cord at Dick Smiths for about $20. Just check the sockets on your TV and see what's there.
