Yes, we are still here. Awaiting my appointment with specialist next Wednesday. I think I mentioned before, a couple of weeks ago, about a young couple who arrived & set up a tent here. They had 2 children (a baby & a toddler), 2 dogs tied up all day on very short leads, some small chickens in a small cage & a cat in a small cage. They had no refrigeration or vehicle. A friend came out every few days & brought them food. Luckily this friend also took the 2 children & the chickens back to her place. Within no time the place looked like a tip with rubbish slowly spreading out from around the tent. A few days ago they said they were moving to Imbil caravan park & friend came out to pick them up. Although they knew for 2 days they were shifting no attempt was made before the friend arrive to pack up anything. Friend came over & spoke to us & she said she had no intention on giving them back the children until she thought they would be better looked after. So off they all went much to our relief. They were making the area here look so bad. An hour or so after they left a chap from the local council arrived & said they had a complaint put in by one of the neighbours near here & the council were probably going to put up a no camping sign. . We explained that the tent people had now gone. He looked around at how the area looked now - all cleaned up & tidy & said he would report back to council. he took our phone number & said if we didn't hear back from him it was okay for us to stay. Five days have gone by & we haven't heard from him so it looks like everything is back to normal again. Last night there were 2 other motorhome besides us & 2 caravans here. It only takes a couple of baddies to make it hard for the rest of us who try to do the right thing. So that's my rant for the day. Have a good day everyone Alice
They did need support but it was a case of "you can't help those who won't help themselves" Apparently the chap has a brother up near Mareeba who owns a banana plantation & this brother has indicated there is a job waiting for him there. But the chap kept saying maybe I'll go up there next month or other various excuses for not working. I know the friends who kept coming out were getting to the end of their patience.
I really hope this area does stay as a "camp", we have stayed there and it is a great, quite stop-over. Like every else we have to keep up the good places, even if we have to pick up the rubbish. I try and do that where ever we camp.
