Ken Tame and your Inverter/Charger NOT COVERED

We have just had the bad news that if you get a power surge in your inverter/charger you are NOT COVERED. So all you motor homers out there, please take note. Also neither is your TV or Microwave. In other words anything with a computer chip or similar.

May change Insurers, any suggestions???????????

Regards Frank & Shirlcry

Hi Frank and Shirl,  Check out CIL Insurance, they are a dedicated caravan insurer.  Seems they cover most stuff.  Fortunately I haven't had to make a claim yet, Cheers Colleen

I've used CIL in the past and made two claims with them,  I was very happy with their service and prompt response.

Because I get group discount I now have joint insurance including RV insurance with SGIO (a subsidiary of NRMA).

I have been with Apia for 2 years, rates are competitive, the cover is quite extensive and they are pleasant to deal with . Haven't made a claim so cannot comment further.

How can an inverter create a "surge"?

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter, the service agent for the victron inverter/charger said the unit received a power surge. He sent it to Bainbridge in Brisbane. We are still mystified with this actually. But what can you do, thats what they say and insurance company won't cover it. Our opinion is it is a part of the motor home, but because it does not have a motor it has electronics its not covered.

Just a quick question if you insure the van with one company and the car with another and you have an accident involving both doesn't it become a problem trying to sought the whole mess out, re who recovers the car and van and lends support to you and yours in terms of getting back home etc.
Cheers
David

I would suggest you contact your insurance companies and find out first hand, before the problem arises.
