Sleeping bags or sheets/blankets etc???

A neighbour in a very posh caravan hangs out their sleeping bags to air each day, and this got me to thinking. We have always used sheets/blankets even in the camper-trailer, but maybe sleeping bags would be easier?

What do you use in your M/home or caravan??

We use sheets & doonas, a light summer one and a toasty warm feather one for winter - but we live full time in our rig.

Maybe if we were just going on short trips away from home it would be easier to use sleeping bags.

I use a light Doona underneath and another on top. Easy enough to wash 2 Doona covers as to wash sheets.
I also carry a couple of extra rugs, one velour, the other is one of those very soft rugs. For cold nights.

I've got a zip on my sleeping bag and can open it up to a double, I use mine as a doona when necessary.

I found sleeping in a bag is a bugger when you have to get out for a pee in a hurry, always feel confined in them....

PS:  You can get sheet inserts for sleeping bags too which can be washed If you want to go that way....

We use a light doona for summer with 3 lightweight blankets if needed when in SW WA, also carry 2 sleeping bags that open to cover a double bed. I will change that a little to the doona and blanket on my side, just a sheet on the wife's side until she gets cold. I'm a bit nesh when traveling, got use to the hot weather in Singers and WA in the 70's, still need that blanket in summer sometimes.

Sleeping bag for me. The less washing, the better. It's a 3/4 bag with plenty of room just for me so there's no feeling of confinement.

We have used both in the past but now just use sheets & doona.

We used the sleeping bags for the kids in the bunks but found them restrictive so they preferred a doona.

The advantage of a sleeping bag is -  you just roll them out and the bed is made.

The disadvantages are if the kids perspired through being too hot they started to smell after a bit of use and have to be aired daily.

If you use the insert sheets they have to be washed so there's no advantage over sheets & doona.

Cheers, - John

Sheets, light blanket and a doona for colder areas. Had enough of sleeping bags when we camped in tents with the kids. Now we like to feel like we are at home.

Yes it is the sheet and doona for us as well. But if my wife isn't the worst person to sleep with, I don't know nuffin.
She can utterly destroy a bed, Sheets and doona thrown off during the night.
The bed looks like a tornado has been thru the place, I kid you not, still wouldn't swap her though.

I was 'told' by himself that twenty years in the Army was more than enough time to get to dislike sleeping bags - then again our new van is called 'Our Hootchie' (an Army tent for your info).

Tried a sleeping bag once back in the 60s. Even though I only have a HiAce campervan, I have a double bed and use a fitted bottom sheet and the feather doona. If I don't sleep comfortably at night I can't enjoy my days, plus I need to be able to stick my feet out the bottom of the bed if I get a bit warmbiggrinbiggrin

There should be nothing about my amenities when camping that makes me want to go home!

Yeah, I agree, must have been mad to even consider swapping to sleeping bags!!! Didn't like them in the tent, not likely to like them now years later in the caravan.

Thanks for your replies everybody

Sleeping bags and inserted sheets are great if it is really cold and you are exhausted as well as sleeping alone. We used a tent traveling with our Harley and enjoyed our feather sleeping bags.
Other than that I DO NOT like them.

cheers Sharon

Sheets, definitely. Doona when it is cold. Have a couple of polar fleece throws for when it is in between doona and just-sheet temps at night.

Did a lot of extended bushwalking in my sillier youth. Sleeping bags were an essential evil, then. These days, I have a choice!
