Hi good people. Robyn and I are new members and we are looking for some advice on reversing cameras on the van. Any info on type. fixed or wireless etc would be appreciated.

G'day Rob and Al.

I've only used the hard wired type as there are a lot of stories around referring to the fact that the wireless variety can get quite a lot of interference. Also from what I have read you can get signal dropout particularly with longer vans or motorhomes.

I have installed my own in our last three vans , which is not rocket science if you're handy, and I have only purchased from Safety Dave who I have had excellent service from and his prices are quite good.

No doubt you can buy cheaper but my experience with him has been great.

I don't know where you're located but he is based in Melbourne and usually has a large profile at the caravan show in Sydney.

If you Google him you will get a good idea of his prices and kits and you can mix and match whatever cameras you need etc.

Keith.

Like Sparkster I bought my system from Safety Dave and it works quite well. There are others that have more bells and whistles on them but they also cost a lot more. I had mine fitted when the van was being built so the wires are well hidden. The reversing camera on the tug makes hitching so much easier, no more confused signals or instructions, really great and it's nice to have some notification that someone's about to overtake you. Love them.

you need a rear vision camera not just a reversing camera, NOT wireless.

Hi allan davey

When I bought my first caravan I was facing the different problems. Reversing safely was a big issue to me. So I have spent some time to ring around the local specialists in Melbourne and search a few places on internet and found industry professionals recommended a wired 4 pin reversing system due to its thick cabling, heavy duty 4 pin connection system and heavy duty camera design over a wireless option. Some people didnt like that for some reason.

I went to a local company called PPA car audio who I have seen sell this product. After some discussions, they were able to point me in the right direction, were able to arrange to come to my house and install it to my Toyota Land cruiser and caravan. The installation process took 3 hours and I must say I was happy with the result. They offered me a reversing camera and screen package with 2 cameras where one was pointing to my tow ball and the other was installed behind the caravan. They both had night vision. Its made reversing so much safer!

Here is a link to their web site
