How old am I

I posted this in jokes by mistake!

How old am I?

In the year I was born there was no:

Television, penicillin, polio shots, frozen foods, contact lenses, Frisbees, contraceptive pill, credit cards, laser beams, ball-point pens

Man had not yet invented

Panty hose, Dishwashers, Clothes dryers

There were no FM radios, tape decks, electric typewriters, yogurt or blokes wearing earrings. Pizza Hut, McDonalds and instant coffee were unheard of.

I was born before gay-rights, computer-dating, dual careers, daycare centres, and group therapy.

Grass was mowed, coke was a cold drink, pot was used for cooking, aids were helpers, chip was a piece of wood, hardware was found in a hardware store and software wasnt even a word.

Everybody believed that a lady needed a husband to have a baby. Most peoples lives then, were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment and common sense and they were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for their actions.

How old am I?

Most of what you mention are fairly recent inventions, Penicillin, which was first used successfully in 1930 would put your age to at least 84 years old, but yoghurt was spoken of by Pliny the Elder back in 60AD odd.

Abraham attributes his good health to yoghurt in the book of Genesis, so you would be long gone to have predated yoghurt.

As for men wearing earrings - The bible talks of men wearing earrings in Genesis 35:4 - And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem (Tel Balata, on the west bank).

Judges 8:24 - 26 also mentions men and earrings :- And Gideon said to them, "Let me make a request of you: every one of you give me the earrings from his spoil. " (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

So you would also be long gone to predate men and earrings.

No.. I'm not a religious freak, instead agnostic, but it is Sunday after all.smile

What about the Political Correctness (PC) that is endemic in the Land of Oz then? So endemic that most do not even realise when they themselves self-censor to kow-tow to PC. It is even 'progressive' to be PC. How PC is that? So, who among us can claim that s/he predates Political Correctness and can remember life and freedom as it was before the cultural Marxism that pervades today? Here is the date to beat,

In 1923 in Germany, a think-tank is established that takes on the role of translating Marxism from economic into cultural terms, that creates Political Correctness as we know it today, and essentially it has created the basis for it by the end of the 1930s.

While compression refrigeration in a crude form ie ammonia cycle, may have been invented by that date, evaporative - coolgardie safe, ice harvesting and absorption refrigeration were the only types available to much of the general public until the 1950s.

Refrigeration as we know it, ie halo vapour compression, only became a reality for general use in the early 1930s and was well out of the reach of many until much later.

I am sure that many of us would remember the Ice chest, the Coolgardie safe and kero fridges of our youth, plus the early Ammonia ice works etc.

you should really know how old you are yourself, as you were born in 1952-12-02 you should be able now to work it out yourself, if you can't then ask your mummy, cos she was there on that day.  biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Well that created a bit comment
Penicillin although first used in 1930 wasnt commonly used in oz when I was born.
Yoghurt was around at the time of my birth but would not be a common commodity in the everyday household.
Very very few men wore earrings unless you were Quinton Crisp or one of his friends.
Although refrigeration was invented you couldnt purchase frozen foods such as frozen chips, vegetables or the like at the time of my birth.

I cant ask my mum because she used to say she wasnt there at the time.

Hey Hendo, I'm slightly older than you (according to your profile) and I really am not sure exactly when grass stopped being something you mowed, but I am sure that change occurred before I turned 16  biggrinbiggrin.

As for the other things....................don't really remember. That not mowing must have done something to my memorybiggrinbiggrinbiggrin
