Porta potty(portable loo)

Can anyone guide me as to the most satisfactory porta loo,yes I know an ensuite is best

followed by a combo system but in a camper or campertrailer there are no such luxuries.

i was in Anaconda shop today and was confused by all the different brands and sizes

so here I am asking for all the expert advice from users of these portable loos.

Thetford Porta Pottis are the best followed by any of the cheapies..

I have found over the years that some of the cheapies leak around the slide when you pick up the cassette to empty it..

For around $55 you can pick up a Campmaster type 20ltr base from Ebay, they work and are usually for emergency use only so they shouldn't be a problem..

Grahos, they mostly all do the same thing.
We got our from Aldi... top chamber holds fresh water for flushing, and a seat with a lid. Bottom collects the waste.
Simple, but the prices vary.
We got one that is high enough to deal with old knees, so not too low. Otherwise... you choose.

As well as the porta-potty you'll need a tent to house it in - we use a frame type (Oztrail ensuite dome) which takes about 5 mins to erect but is pretty secure. Pop-ups are half the price and erect instantly although you really need to peg them down. Packing up the pop-up types also requires a lot of practice.

Thx hako just looked at the Oztrail ensuite dome ,better than those popup ones, bought one once and gave the crazy thing away.
It looks like most prefer the Thetford porta potti, but I take on board the height problem, may need a hand rail to get off the thing,ROFL.

Even the 20 litre models are really only kiddie height so it makes it much easier to raise the height by sitting it on a box or even an upturned drawer - ideally to just under what a conventional chair is. House toilets are a compromise height so that kids and adults can use them so of necessity they are lower than if they were used only by adults.
So if you're not carrying kids then experiment to find the ideal height. If you still have trouble getting off the throne it would not be too hard to incorporate a rail or similar into whatever you use to raise the porta-potty.
Good Luck.

Like Dennis says there are 2 sizes in all brands.

The 10L ones are lower and as so are much easier to store under beds or the like and you can bring them up to height by making a box for them to travel in and turn it upside down to sit the potti on..

The same goes for the 20L units if you want them a bit higher.

They are a fairly simple construction with nothing much that can go wrong.... unless they leak.... however many a thread and hundreds of posts have been dedicate to the art of keeping them smelling sweet and finding the correct place to dump the contents.

My bro-in-law left his unit half full untouched for about a week and when he went to use it again he noticed it was very unsteady and rocked to and fro - turns out the contents had brewed up a storm and the inner pressure was almost at the point where a catastrophe was imminent. He delicately defused the situation by opening the flap very very gently. You've gotta watch em!

Great Idea Bob to raise the height,Wow Hako that could have been an explosive situation.
Not nice getting soaked in effulent, when I had a piggery often the pigs dislodged a section of the floor and fell into the
effluent pit which was a metre deep, the dog and I had to get into the pit and the dog would bring them up to me then
I had to lift them back onto terra firma,Needless to say it was strip off at the back door and a hose down before
I was allowed inside for a shower.

Crappy job, but someone has to do it!
