Two companies to look at the following links should help.

http://www.campersat.com.au/

http://www.satplus.com.au/

Both have had reviews on the forum before but as previous forumites have said stay away from  iTechworld.

You now have the choice of a 240 Volt only or a 12 volt/240 volt decoder box and there are a few 12 volt TV's around The teac23" LED runs off a transformer so you can run it from a 12 volt supply. I was advised to run mine through a regulated 12 volt feed. I bought one from Jaycar around the $29 mark. Supposed to keep the 12 Volt feed regular to stop any spikes in voltage etc.

Hope this helps in sorting out your TV

Hi all. If you are on the age pension check with Human Services ( Centrelink ) as you may be eligible for a free vast box.

Not as a traveller Kelpie, only if your house is in a non digital serviced area.

Pretty much all 22" & under lcd flat screens have 12v input, we have always run ours direct from the van house battery without issues.

Approx $600 should get you close to 'tv anywhere' status.

$280 for a decoder

$150 for dish & LNB should be close

$45 for cables & connectors

$50 for a decent tripod.

You may need a Sat Finder, if so get a programmable digital, $100 - $150  but with Wikicamps app on

your smartphone and the inbuilt sat finder in, for instance a Satking decoder for one, that is all you need.

Cheers Neil

Thanks to all for the info. I do have a tv that runs on 12v so it seems i'm looking for a dish, a vast box, a method of finding the best satellite,  and some cables. I will call centrelink to confirm the stance on pensioner assistance. Again thanks for your advice and help.

Why are you watching the TV instead of taking in the beautiful sights that this country has to offer around every corner? Even when darkness falls, go outside and gaze in awe at the night sky above you.....

Hi Delta18 and all. We have had several GN's from many different places in Oz stay at our camping grounds here at Kooroorinya Nature Reserve and several have had the VAST system with the decoders supplied FOC through Human Services. When I became aware of this I applied and received a free VAST decoder. There did not appear to be any limitations as to place of residence and one of the requirements is that you reregister every 6 months so they can update their database and program your decoder for the area in which you are then travelling. These schemes come and go but an enquiry costs nothing. Cheers.

All up, ours cost us $695.00 in Albany WA May 2013. Decoder is 12 Volt, van was pre-wired.  Tripod that came with set is good quality with bullet spirit level.  Bought & set up by Neil in Albany TV Services, ready to go, we went back to van, plugged in, and away we went.   Just remember, your registration expires every 6 months, and you can re-activate with a phone call to a 1300 number.  Easy as (except that we did not know it was going to expire)

IF your house is in none digital area get the setup from CL and when you go travelling just have to buy a dish and tripod.
