Walcha to Apsley Falls

Hi. I am seeking information on the road condition from Walcha to Apsley Falls in NSW.

In particular, is mountainous, and if so, is it caravan friendly.

I will be pulling an 18 foot pop-top with a 4.8 l Nissan Patrol.

Oh, and any C/P that may in or around the Falls too please.

Any experience with this area will be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance, KB

Hi Kb

We stayed at the Walcha Caravan Park last October and I must admit it was one of the best Parks we have stayed in. Rates were good, amenities were excellent and the owners were really nice. If I remember correctly, it was about 18 Klms to Apsley falls and the road is very good. I'm not too sure about any C/ps at Apsley falls but it is only a short drive from Walcha.

We towed our Jayco Outback with a Turbo 3000ltr Prado, from Walcha over the range to Port Macquarie without any trouble. If it not too dry, the scenery was beautiful.

Glen

The distance from Walcha to Apsley falls is only about 20k, and whilst you are up on the plateau, the windy bit of the road doesn't begin until further down towards Mt Seaview.

The road is very good and pretty straight in this area with ample pavement width.

There is an excellent State forest low cost bush camping ground at Apsley falls which is accessed by taking the first turn to the right after going through the gate, or continue straight ahead to get to the falls proper.

Great viewing platform and some good walks around the rim.

A great little caravan park at Walcha, we stayed for a few days eighteen months ago.
A good steady drive out to Aspley falls, From memory the road into the falls is good dirt, a camping ground is available at the falls.
Another good free camp is at the foot of the mountain at Ellenborough about 30k out of Wauchope.
Alternately, drive down Thunderbolts Way, good free camping at Bretti Reserve or Gloria Vale, A VERY STEEP DECLINE.
