Weet-Bix is being heavily advertised in Melbourne at the moment so I went out a purchased a box. While reading the box I remembered why I stopped buying them a couple of years ago.
They have no statement what-so-ever about where the wheat comes from. Anyhoo I wrote and asked them and here's the reply below:-
I wrote back suggesting maybe they should state that on the box........
Dear Steve
Thank you for contacting us regarding Weet-Bix
Sanitarium sources all it's wheat from Australian farmers. The only ingredient in Weet-Bix, sourced overseas (Europe) is the added vitamins and minerals.
Just did a bit of Googling on Sanitarium - apparently like Dick Smith, they give 100% of their profits to charity activities sponsored by the SDA church.
Sanitarium is owned by the SDA church, still runs as a non-profit organisation and therefore has a much reduced tax bill. Always has had. They had a large factory in Warburton in Victoria which has been closed for years but sis still standing.
What I like about the SDA is that they have garage sales on Sundays. All true garage sale devotees know that church run garage sales are always the best and have the cheapest most interesting junk.
Now I might be a bit late with this as the topic has probably moved on, but recently they have been advertising Weet Tix, not Weet Bix. Hmm me wonders why?
Tonight Dick Smith was on the box bleating that he stole someone elses brand name for Aussie Mite (he spells it Ozi Mite), and complaining that the courts had found against poor Dick, he even had a crocodile tear.
It appears that Ozi-Mite has 30 days to be gone, wonder what the new brand will be.
