When I saw this I had to laugh, We went to a caravan park here in Perth to find out about pricing etc for a couple from Victoria we met last week at Stockton Lake near Collie, well we just got looked at when we went into the office ( no greeting just a what do you want your disturbing me look), the wife was taken aback and took a few seconds to recover to ask the price for a night on a power site. $40 was the reply, I don't know if I was able to hide to look of disbelief at the cost, a few more costings for units was asked $80 to $140 the reply, when do you want it, it's for a friend and the dates aren't know yet, OK was the reply end of conversation.
Now with this kind of reception from a park that I would call the bottom end of the parks in Perth and the cost of staying there our Tourism minister says we should talk up the state so as to get non WA people to holiday here, all I can say (and I know this is only one example of WA parks ) is as you near Perth , TURN AROUND AND RUN
Probably the cheapest around Perth (both not far from the airport) is Camp Wattle Grove (at Wattle Grove) or the Seven Day Adventist one Hazelmere Google both for more details. The SDA one is almost opposite a caravan park called Crystal Brook, that's where Daniel Morcombes alleged murderer was staying before he was arrested.
Paul, was that caravan park part of a chain (ie; Top Tourist or Big 4????). The caravan site fees are hefty but the cabin fees sound about normal for WA.
I certainly wouldn't let the experience with one park put anyone off coming here, all states have expensive parks especially during school or public holidays etc. There are some bargain parks inland of WA, it is mostly (like all states) the coastal parks that are the most expensive.
Ever since the mining boom, every one wants to get rich. The further north you go the worst it gets. We stayed at Karrinyup Waters Resort in Gwellup. Good service, good amenities, close to Perth, bus outside the gate rates very reasonable and Top Tourist Park. This the best in Perth.

Have to say we found the same as Paul on our recent visit to WA, everything was pretty enjoyable, people very hospitable up through the gold fields area, when we hit Geraldton and started heading North everything changed, got the impression we were simply a resource to be exploited and a bit of an annoyance, everything was very expensive, we won't return.
Thankfully once we got into the NT things became a lot more relaxed and people more welcoming.
PS We will probably cross the Nullabor and visit the gold fields again, simply wont travel further West.
