Best way to go

We will be travelling to Cairns and looking for advice on which is the best road to Cairns from either Atherton or Mareeba I have heard one way down is better than the other but cannot remember which one some advice from members in the know would be very helpful, we will be towing a 21 foot van behind a Pajero.

Hi It is best to go down the Kuranda Range. You will find it much easier than The Gillies. The Kuranda Range road has been widened over the years & quite a few of the bends taken out. Cheers Alice

We found the Kuranda Range a lot more caravan friendly than down the Gillies.A lot less turns and no where near as sharpe.

Another option and maybe the easiest, is to come a little south from Atherton, and down the road to Innisfail.

Agree - we are 6.5 tonnes all up and it was a breeze,, through Millaa Millaa and down Palmerston H'way.
