Mazda BT50 GPS

Has anyone had trouble with their GPS system in the 2013 BT50?

Yes. the one in our vehicle is that user unfriendly that we brought a Garmin fully loaded with red light/speed cameras, school zones complete with warning alarms and speed limits. Also you cannot add anything on to the built in unit. ie camps, or anything you might feel important. When the maps need updating only Mazda can do it. We simply do not activate the built in unit. Absolutely love the Bluetooth set up though.

Ours suggests some weird routes but other than that it works fine considering how old the system is. The last I heard was that the maps are supplied by whereis and that was about 5 years ago and Mazda had no plans to update them so I don't know how long the thing will be useful.

Thank you for your replies Ballast2 and D and D.

Ours worked well in the beginning and now won't work at all some days or goes off at important times.

We have an old Tom Tom so will go back to using that one.

Probably a bit of a red herring  ..  but

I was interested in the topic as I have just taken delivery of an 'All New' Mazda 3 to replace my old Getz town car, & am trying to become expert in my Navigation system  .. amongst other things.

It seems that the maps are held on an SD card in the Mazda & I have two free map upgrades per year for 3 years.  I was going to update today as on a trip into the country yesterday, I found that the new bit of highway that I was on was not in the map.

The on line reference says that BT50s use Whereis maps & that upgrades can be purchased from Whereis.

Unfortunately the Mazda maps on line 'Tool Box' is not yet available, so I can't update mine anyway.  I'll bring this up with the dealer today when I go back to retrieve my E-toll tag.

Somewhere in the mountain of documentation I think that it mentioned that the Mazda 3 uses Tom Tom & not sensis maps.
