G'Day everyone!! I'm finely allowed in. :)

Hello everyone from MollyW and Rob. handshake.gif

My OH and I are trying to sell our property and hit the road. This decision has caused al lot of excitement amongst our off spring!! no

"What about us " We hear the cry.........answer is  "get stuffed" biggrin

We will of course be spending the inheritance, because that is all we really have, being asset rich and cash bloody broke.

In preparation we went for a drive today to look at Caravans & (as you say) tugs. We had a look at the Supreme vans, and intend to look at Concept next.

Any suggestions welcome.

Looked at Ford Rangers on the way home. Lovely day and now it is RAINING !!!

Do not overlook Jayco vans. The have great after sales service, I would say the best. A lot of people will rubbish Jayco (They are usually non Jayco owners) One in five caravans on the road is a Jayco so you will get the odd lemon. I do not work for Jayco

****  WELCOME **** MollyW  Keep asking questions and you will keep getting answers, we are a helpful lot here??

Your Choice of Tug !! and Van !! I am afraid to say, is something that you will have to ''Personally approve'' ?/  We have all had to make those same decisions. and we ALL have the Best combinations possible, BUT guess what, ?? they are all different, So you will have to Look, and Research, THEN Look, and Research some more. and eventually you will make YOUR decision. and you to, will have the best combination Available ?? For You ??

I will leave the decisions up to you, the only advice I can give, is STICK TO WELL KNOWN BRANDS as there are lots of Pretty vans out there, But the question is ?? how good is the workmanship, and the build quality, If you see a van you like ? see if you can have a Tour of the factory, to see how they are made, We asked that when we bought our Lotus sprint 19' and it was the deciding factor in our decision,

Re your Tug, I personally like the Ford Ranger, and all the Motor writers say it is the Best in its Class, However I reckon you would get a better deal On the Mazda BT50 which is basically the same car ??

Anyway Just get out there and ''Do It '' ?? As for the Kids, ?? and Iheritance  Spend all you need ?? and when its time, ?? they can have What's Left ??  GOOD LUCK.

Hi...   Oh how great to be at the start of one of life's great experiences.

I would be looking closely at an Isuzu dMax & Mazda BT50 as a tug.

And value for money Jayco (but MUST have an en-suite)...  But there is a vast range of vans out there.  I would stick to one of the best sellers.

enjoy ......  wish we were starting out again

G'day and welcome. our van is a Jayco Stirling with combined shower/ toilet. The tug is BT50 and we feel it is perfect for us. As others have said the final choice is yours only.

The Ford ranger is approx 3 K dearer but has lots better ride and creature comforts..

But do not buy the Ford towbar as it is too low.

Thanks everyone, lovely to join you. We are taking in all your advice with interest. No 2 is horrified that we might spend $100000 on a combination. Hee hee I love stiring him. 35 and doesn't own a thing. Waiting for us to snuff it. Get stuffed !!

Welcome Molly and Rob I am a newcomer to this place but i have been made welcome and received heaps of useful advice and assistance. As to your questions, we are on our fifth van and im still making changes. It really is "personal preference" for both shed and tug, and after a while you will still want something different. Enjoy the time ahead and bugga the kids youve spent enough on them already. Enjoy.

Hi MollyW, Welcome to the playground. We are in much the same position as you. We just bought a generator and it is all a bit much to take in. Anyway, enjoy your travels and welcome.

Good on you for coming out to play - it's a massive playground :) Yep, we agree with some of the others; stick to the well known brands. We've got a Jayco 25' - our second van - and wouldn't swap it. We've found that we can get bits and pieces for it as needed, from all round the country, rather than with our previous van (from a smaller supplier) we had to send the part to Melbourne and wait for a replacement which was a nuisance and really inconvenient. From talking around I think it's pretty safe to say that mostly when you walk out of a caravan sales centre you'll get very little (or no) help from them ever again - generally it seems they don't want to know you. But we've found Jayco very good with the few things that have needed replacing. And we wouldn't repeat our first mistake (for us) of not getting an ensuite - in our opinion it's a big plus to have one. Enjoy the journey!

We bought a Avian Liam with Off road pack, it has taken me nearly 12 months to get things sorted to the stage where I am happy with it, local dealer is crap but Avian boss is very helpful, I tow it with a PK Ranger and am very pleased with it. Everything boils down to personal choice. A mate told his kids, when he dies and they look at his bank acc and its got $7 in it get over it, its my money if you want money then go earn it as I did.

WE have a 23.72-1 Jayco Sterling just over 2 years old and it tows really well behind our Navara. We took it to WA last year and had no problems at all . We had a Nissan Pathfinder to tow it with then and it was very good and economical. For what it is worth we are heading off again to WA next month.

I have been steered away from the jo vans, due to workmanship and poor resale value. But will go and have a look again.
