what size generator to run air con? help please

Hi Everyone, is there anyone who know what size generator we need to buy? We have a Wren Aircommand. cooling output 3,0 kw. heating output 3.0 kw. ma ximum current 6.0 amps. locked rotor current 20 amps. We are looking at the Yamaha ef2400is and wonder if it is big enough to run air con and say tv? have found the best price online but would much rather buy at a shop in Brisbane if I knew of one.  We need some advice it is a huge purchase.  Thanks.

Have a look  at Genquip their 3000 has good specs and will run your aircon, I have used their product for the past 6-7 years, (pumps) and have had no prob,do good after sale advice.

I see that the 3000 is same price as the Honda 20.

Bob

google  Genquip to get to their site as I have trouble posting links.

remember that the aircon start current may be as much as 5 times the run current for a few seconds , 3kw is barely enough to run the aircon let alone start it , I have 4.4kw but you will have to tongue test the aircon to get start current.

I have an Ibis Aircommand. I use a Honda 2kva which starts and runs the aircon . I make sure I start it on "Ecostart" and have my battery charger turned off. Your 2.4 genquip should be good but the 3kva will be more than adequate.

Hi Rocket,

There is a company in Bris that has a centre of the aisle shop in the Morayfield Mall that sell a range of generators(Pure Sine Wave) at a very good price. He has a Warehouse where you can arrange to see the stuff running. I was looking to buy a 4.4 KVA one from him at $690. Looked well built and good quality.

There is also another place called ESK Valley Traders in Esk that do a whole range of generators at good prices. I bought a 5.5Kva one there for a friend who installed it permanently in a bin in his 36' Bus and has used it for the last few years with no problems. Cost approx.$700-$750

Hope that helps

I have the 3kva Honda and find it to big (to heavy for me to lift).
I am looking at downsizing and worry about what it run later.
The 3kva can handle the a/c, m/w, tv, etc. all at once.

If you are gunna get rid of it would you like to trade a eu20i that has done very little work in on it with a fair cash adjustment..?????

This is also one area I have been looking at also.

I have been told not to buy under 3 KV pure sine, whatever that means.

As for weight just put it on a fold up trolley or put some wheels under it.

Patto44....like me the 3Kva is to much to lift, suggest you use 2 x 2Kva Honda`s with "white" box to run them in parallel, will do the job just fine and much easier to lift as the 2`s weight about 22-23kgs each.....only problem is price for the all up system.

I think I only need a 2 kva as it is a 'just in case' situation. I may use it for the A/c in summer if needed. I have solar for everything else if we are free camping. the only other 240v item is the M/wave.

We have a 3kva Honda . Runs everything at once if needed , and has wheels .

Doesn't get a lot of use , but at least I know it will do the job and keep on doing it .

It is on slides in the back of the Cruiser .

Don't use it  very often as we have solar panels on the top of the van .
