Townsville- where is best central...ish place to stay for 5 days

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can offer some tips/recommendations of where to stay in Townsville,

We are in Cairns now and heading south that way recon to stay for about 4-5 days,

We did stay at Coral Coast last time a few months ago, whilst it was just an overnighter was pretty noisy being near the main rd and in an industrial estate, I do not want to discourage any one else from staying there was nice n clean etc, but just thought to ask for some other ideas, I have had one other say about Coconut Glen Van Village, any thoughts?confuse

Cheers Rich n Debs

There is a van park at tne showgrounds, very central, but don,t know what its like as I haven,t stayed there. Most van parks are on the outskirts, and a few klms out of town. Has anybody stayed at the showgrounds? Bill

Try Rowes Bay Caravan Park, very central to CBD, walking distance to shops, bottle O etc. Very good amenities, plenty of shade, very popular park so expect some company.

Rowes Bay is in town and opposite the water, quiet too BUT up until mid last year at least they don't take bookings, you get there early in the morning and hope for the best.

Another one is approx 20 mins north of Townsville, Big4 Woodlands, on the Hwy but not too noisy. I have stayed there a few times over the years and is a nice place, yeh, I know, it's Big4.

The one Bill mentioned is reasonable. Jules47 and Billeeeeeee have stayed there.

There is another one near the Army Barracks and looks good from the outside.

Can't remember where Coconut is sorry.

Hi Rich and Debs and all. We recently spent a month at the Range Caravan Park, Herveys Range Road and recommend it highly. 15 minutes from CBD, 5 mins to several good shopping centres, 10 mins to Townsville Hospital and best part is the CP caters for the over 50's. No swimming pool, playground, jumping castles and all those other things which detract from the quiet life. Great staff, excellent amenities, lovely, mostly permanent/semi permanent mature aged neighbours. What more can I say. Cheers.

Just remembered Coconut. Personally, give it a miss, next to railway line and in industial area as well. You can see it from the back on the hwy. Just down the road from Coral actually. I agree with you about Coral too.

Hi everyone,
Thanks a lot for your replies, looks like we will be going to Rowe's Bay then, quite a bit more $$ and hopefully worth it.
cheers

Another is Black River Stadium CP on Black River Rd about 20km North of T'ville. They try to only take over 50's, no pool, playground, tec but clean and plenty of room. Gates are locked at 6 each evening so no problems.

Good for a week or so. We paid $25/night recently. I think they do deals for a week.

There are some good free spots from Rollingstone? down, (Blue water saunders beach, tomala beach ) We stayed at the 7 day adventise college in Aitkenvale. Not flash but a lot cheaper than the parks (pardon the Spelling)

We stayed there many years ago, was very handy to town and bus at the door, we stayed for a couple of weeks while our car was being fixed (parts had to be flown in from Melbourne, first lost went astray and had to wait for 2nd lot).   We had our Avan camper to stay in while the car was being fixed.   Enjoyed the stay, I remember the Ibis raiding the rubbish bins in the park, they knock them over to get the lids off and to get at the contents....
