Hi everyone, I'm running a coaster on the following - fridge 240v, 24v & solar, lights solar & car battery, stove, bbq & hot water gas, air con car motor. What would be the best way to run appliances eg kettle, toaster, microwave, lap top etc. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks shero
All the light power appliances can be run from solar or batteries..
A/C, kettle, microwave is best off mains or generator..
Fridge can be either depending on solar size [if any?] ..
Its all mathematics add up watts or amp then work it out from there..
Often have to limit appliances running at same time..
A better way to run the Lap Top, rather than through an inverter is to get a dedicated 12v power supply that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket, they are available from JayCar Electronics.
Hi shero , My lighting is all LED , fridge 12v cooking all gas , the problem with the rest is power consumption , Microwave usually 12/1500 watts , kettle 2.4 Kw , toaster 2.4 Kw you will need good inverter which means larger battery bank or use a Genny as we do . Lap top can be run through a sine wave inverter 300w will do
All comes down to how Serious you are about your Power..
- the Right Batteries, And charging Routines and you could do everything off Batteries..
No I'm not going to mention what type of Batteries, but they are out there and there a few system's out there that Do NOT have to run a Generator at all, Or hook up to a Power Point..
- Electric cooking..
- Pod coffee machine[aldi]
- Air-Con.. 2.5kw 5-6Star's..
- Hot water..[240v]
All your Charging need's.. Laptop direct..
- Radio etc..
- Domestic House Fridge.. FAR Cheaper than a 12v/240v Gas Fridge..[ More efficient as well] 3.5star's for about $600..
Oh yeah they are NOT lead acid..

Have you proven this system yet Snow T, or are you hoping it will work..
It seems to me that to harvest the amount of power you would require to operate that amount of equipment 24/7 365 days a year you would need more solar panels than you can fit on the available space..

Then it still has to be charged from somewhere, If it is not a fuel cell then you would want a lot of panels and a massive bank of power to run it. I'm waiting for a book to show me how. I've just spent a bit of money following Collyn Rivers ideas and no mention of 240v for free camping.
