Hey I been in all 4 of those camping situations over the years. We went right around Oz once in a 4WD with just a swag to throw on the ground. I've earning my bit of comfort now.

John I think you must have speaking with my eldest son.
I said to him, " did you ever think you would see your mother doing this?"
He replied, " mum this isn't camping, this is no different to your house!"

Sort of took the wind out of my sails for a bit, of course this came from the son who would prefer to be under the stars in a swag than even a 2 star motel.
Can't win them all.

And I will be willing to admit I do prefer the 5 star version of camping. Miss Daisy does very well.

Gday...

Despite my "holier than thou" playful dig in the OP photo, Sharon ... I am a bit like your son - albeit I don't sleep in my tent often enough.

My mode of 'being in the bush' these days is covered by these photos I guess - although the blue tent doesn't get used anywhere near as much as the big aluminium tent cry

Yeah RL, but those little blue tents allow you to go to tricky beautiful places, where you couldn't go with your big aluminium tent! I still miss our first tent, it had a "star watching" window in the ceiling.

I can remember going camping/shooting in Vic in winter, back in the 70's, when all we had to keep us warm of a night was a fire and sleeping on bracken while dressed in overalls and and a RAAF greatcoat thrown over us. Later on we scored a tarp... Luxury..
The $1.60 bottle of port from a small shop near Ballarat helped a bit too. We used to shoot rabbits just on dusk and cook them over the fire hung off a piece of fence wire, then get stuck into a few beers followed up by the port just so your blood didn't freeze.

I think I've got a bit soft since then.. :(

Gday...

Ditto absolutely to all that 03_Troopy .... but we used to make use of Stone's Green Ginger Wine for the warmth and "well-being" it imbued.

I guess we have become just that little bit soft over the years

Cheers - John

Hahaha. nothing wrong with the green ginger mate. It was our squadron drink when i was in 77SQN back in the.. ummm geez well one of the stints i did there 70's or 80's. There is even a pic ,that is very hard to find, of a Mirage tail fin painted with the the Stones Green Ginger label.
Incedentally, my Bro-in-law introduced me to his squadron? (army) drink.. Green Death! 50% SGW and 50% bundy.. that stuff will rot ya socks.
