Copper1 & 2's movements in Tassie

Well headed off to Cradle Mountain today in warm 27 deg weather what a day. Anyway ended up walking the 6.6 km walk right around Dove lake even my father who has various aliments made it. 3.5 hrs what an accomplishment. Anyway we have then headed back to waratah (base camp) and this arvo I washed the car and then we headed off to the Bischoff Hotel in waratah for a few cleansing ales with some others from the camp lovely people from Qld and NZ also had a counter dinner which was A1. Anyway things are progressing quite well and will have a lazy day at Waratah before heading to Strahan on Sunday.

PS this weather is divine biggrin

Keep Safe on the roads

Cradle is beautiful, but I prefer Lake St Clair to Dove Lake - not as picturesque (?spelling?), but less people. And good fishing!

Meant to ask, where else is on your agenda while you are here? Highly recommend Southport, if you aren't in a big rig........ Not Kingfisher, all McMansions masquerading as shacks there, but the bay is gorgeous, and the Roaring Beaches at Dover are lovely.

Sounds like you are all enjoying your Tassie adventure C1&2 and part time C3&4.

Enjoy The West Coast.

I just enjoyed a trip to Richmond from Devenport and back up via the great lake area, just spectacular.

Love Richmond - lovely town with great people. Devonport, not my favourite place.... spent 30 years plotting my escape...

Ulverstone now - staying with family for the same reason - and the grandson *may* have something to do with it too, I s'pose. Off to Burnie tomorrow for a shorebird lecture with the local NRM; we do twice yearly counts on Moorlands Beach - if you can get out there, preferably on a weekday, and at low tide, it's a great walk. If the trail bikes have been there, or the dog running idiots are out it's not as nice, but if it's empty...........

I love that old tree giving the peace sign, Copper. I have photography friends who rave about the Tasmanian scenery. I've also seen a couple of ABC TV documentaries of Tassie with superb cinematography - breathtaking stuff. So I'm sure you'll continue to enjoy your stay there... and I will mine one of these days.

You should head over Gary. There are many things that irk me about Tassie, but the scenery is second-to-none.

Copper 1&2 - lovely photo of Cradle Mountain - we had snow on 6th December when we were there - spectacular!

And I second Macquarie Heads as a camp - terrific spot, and worth the drive out for sure. Strahan has changed since the last time I was there, about 20 years ago - very "touristy", and parking is a bit of a nightmare - got to pay in a lot of spots. You can stay at the Golf Club for about $10 a night for a look around.

Speaking of walking tracks, I've noticed Tassy Parks & Wildlife Shop has many maps for walking tracks.

Is it worth buying these individual maps ahead of my trip as a reference or can you just wing it when you get there?

I plan on touring all of Tassy and possibly staying there indefinitely.

Hi Garry! We have had a few weeks down in Tassie in years past and one spot a bit  off the beaten track served us well as an R&R spot is "Pine Tiers lagoon."

Very good camping and trout fishing from the bank. Fishing regs. may have changed so check, I am sure you already know the regs.  Every rock in Tassie has a worm under it  and every worm may catch a trout.

Fuel  and Tucker up at Bronte Park Store, 42 08 07s.  146 2929e.

Turn off the Marlborough Highway, north of Bronte,  @ 42 07 23s.  146  30  09e.

Our prefered camp sit was/is some where near 42 04 31s.  146 29 24e.

May depend on water levels.

Have fun Haji-Baba

Wing it.  You can get maps/advice here, and just because the tracks are on the map, doesn't mean they will be usable at any given time....

Hey Garry, if you get a chance have a look at Ben Lomond. The road up is called Jacobs Ladder,

not the best road for the faint hearted but a wondewrful drive all the same.

I guarantee it will be the most thrilling ride you will ever get with all your clothes on.

Don't take the van up.

Have fun Haji-Baba
