Gosh - doesn't look like I remember him. Used to see him at pubs etc., with Vikka and Linda Bull - actually one night at the Somerville (Vic) pub,Vikka leaned over from the stage, and asked if she could have my black panty hose - she had a giant hole in the back of them on the leg, and couldn't move freely, so backstage I went and I ended up with none - but I got a free CD!

Spot on Sandy.

Actress and singer Lena Horne was born June 30, 1917, in Brooklyn, New York. She left school at age 16 to help support her family and became a dancer at the Cotton Club in Harlem. After having established herself as a sought after live singer, a role she would maintain throughout her life, she later signed with MGM studios and became known as one of the top African-American performers of her time, seen in such films as Cabin in the Sky and Stormy Weather. She was also known for her work with civil rights groups and refused to play roles that stereotyped African-American women, a stance that many found controversial. After some time out of the limelight during the '70s, she made a revered, award-winning comeback with her 1981 show Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music. Continuing to record into her later years, Horne died on May 9, 2010.

Howard Green Duff (November 24, 1913  July 8, 1990) was an American actor of film, television, stage, and radio.

Duff was born in Charleston, now part of Bremerton, Washington.[1]

He graduated in 1932 from Roosevelt High School in Seattle, where he began acting in school plays after he was cut from the school basketball team. Thereafter, he worked locally in the theater in Seattle until he entered the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was assigned to the United States Army Air Corps's radio service.

Sam Spade

Duff began working in radio while in the military during World War II. He announced re-broadcasts prepared for Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS). In this role, he served as the announcer for Suspense dated March 16, 1943. Duff's greatest radio role was when he played Dashiell Hammett's private eye Sam Spade from 1946 to 1950, starring in The Adventures of Sam Spade on three different networks: ABC, CBS, and NBC.[2]Lurene Tuttle starred as Effie Perrine, Spade's attentive secretary. In 1951, Steve Dunne took over the role of Sam Spade.[3]

Not JD Sandy.  This guy was in a heap of Movies, TV shows, and was also a singer.  [Which I didn't know.]

He died last year.

SOUTH Australian television pioneer Lionel Williams has been remembered as a pure gentleman and a wonderful father following his death on Thursday morning at the age of 87.

The Logie award-winning presenter, who co-hosted Adelaide Tonight with Kevin Crease during the 1960s, passed away after a brief illness at Flinders Private Hospital.

Williams is survived by his wife, Elizabeth and their three children, Leah Kennedy, 60, Randal, 58, and Stephen, 57.

Mrs Kennedy said her fathers private persona matched his onscreen personality, which remained on Adelaide television for more than three decades.

There was a public Lionel and private Lionel, and the private Lionel was a lovely, lovely man. He was a great dad, and we had a fantastically happy childhood, Mrs Kennedy said.

We laughed and sang, there was a lot of music, we had a lot of parties. We had a great life and he was a wonderful father.

Born and raised in Woodville, Williams started his career at radio 5KA in 1952 before being recruited in 1959 to star on Australias new medium, television. He compered Nines live variety show Adelaide Tonight with Crease for eight years, picking up a Logie as SAs top male television personality in 1963.

He left the show in 1967 to manage the SA branch of the Australian International Travelcentre, but continued to do advertisements and voice-overs for Nine for another five years.

Williams also tried his hand at acting, making several appearances in television drama series, including Matlock, Homicide and Division Four.

Later, he returned to television screens with on his own daytime TV show, Its A Womans World in 1976, which eventually became the Lionel Williams Show. It ran for 12 years, while he also presented Sevens The Golden Years of Hollywood and co-hosted the daytime quiz show, Concentration, with Joan McInnes, now Lady Joan Hardy.

Didi James, 78, worked with Williams at Channel 9 in the 1960s and said the pair kept in touch over the years until the last 12 months.

Its very sad news. He was a pure gentleman. He was always very pleasant, very easy to work with, Mrs James said.

He had such a beautiful voice and he always looked much younger than he was, he had that baby face.
