Following on from Sheba's comment I googled "An old Haggard weather beaten worse for wear Rocker in his sixties" not good so I replaced Rocker with Actor and then replaced Actor with singer Then I tried "An old Haggard weather beaten worse for wear Actor in his sixties in Bay Watch" I then tried "An old Haggard weather beaten worse for wear Beach bum sixties" still no good but it is amazing how often the Rolling Stones pop up with those searches.

No Sheba, not him. He was born in England in 1951 and is better known in England and USA than he is in Australia. I hear he is Driving Home for Christmas !!! He refers to this drive as The Road to Hell.
So the game doesn't drag on, I'll give you a vital clue tomorrow morning !!!

Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
It would be Chris Rea Relax-n. All the clues I gave are the names of his well known songs. On the Beach; Driving Home for Christmas, Road to Hell.. Over to you.
Chris Rea
Singer-songwriter
Christopher Anton Rea is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist, recognisable for his distinctive, husky-gravel voice and slide guitar playing. The book Guinness Rockopedia described him as a "gravel-voiced guitar stalwart".
Donald Malcolm Campbell, CBE was a British speed record breaker who broke eight absolute world speed records on water and on land in the 1950s and 1960s. He remains the only person to set both world land and water speed records in the same year, 1964
Gordon Maitland ChaterAM (6 April 1922 12 December 1999) was a Gold Logie-award-winning English Australian comedian and actor.
Chater attended Cottesmore School as a child.[1] He attended Cambridge University to study medicine but did not finish his degree, instead taking part in many student revues.

As soon as I saw his face the words of the song "Could I have this dance for the rest of my life, I will change my name to something you like" came to me
I think that he may have become famous because of his name
Keeping with the singers, who is this man below, he was known as the Elvis of his country
I googled what you said "he was known as the Elvis of his country" and among a lot of Elvis Presley photos I got Johnny HallydayIf I am right can you post another pic please Tony Bev because I will be busy mixing concrete tomorrow and I don't want to hold up the game.

During a career spanning 57 years, he released 79 albums and sold more than 80 million records worldwide, mainly in the French-speaking world, making him one of the best-selling artists in France and in the world. Credited for his strong voice and his spectacular shows, he sometimes arrived by entering a stadium through the crowd and one time by jumping from a helicopter above the Stade de France, where he has performed 9 times. Among his 3,257 shows completed in 187 tours, the most memorable were at Bercy in 1993, at the Stade de France in 1998 (just after France's win in the Football World Cup) and at the Eiffel Tower in 2000, which are all regarded as record-breaking performances in term of ticket sales for a French artist. A million spectators gathered to see his performance at the Eiffel Tower, joined by 9 million more watching on TV.
Keeping with the singers for a bit longer, but closer to home
