You got her Jewel.  Who do you have for us ?   [Welcome to the site by the way.]

Loved and loathed

Margaret Thatcher, Britains first female prime minister, used her cast iron will to help change the face of Britain. She epitomised a particular school of right-wing politics: Thatcherism laissez-faire economics and individual self-determination.

Even after her death, she remains a controversial figure. Some see her as having saved Britain from economic decline, others believe she destroyed the livelihoods of millions of workers. Yet this powerful woman began her life in a quiet market town.

13 October 1925

Born a grocers daughter

Margaret Thatcher talks about her upbringing in Grantham. Panorama (BBC One, 1960).

Margaret Thatcher was born Margaret Roberts in 1925. She grew up in Grantham in Lincolnshire above the familys corner grocery store.

Margarets father Alfred Roberts had a huge influence on her. He was an austere man, a devout Methodist and served as a Conservative councillor. Alfred instilled in Margaret the values of hard work and public service. During World War Two she was inspired by Winston Churchills defiant speeches and his refusal to give in to Nazism. She saw Churchill as a heroic figure. His uncompromising attitude had a huge influence on her politics and personality.

She sure is Jewel.  Your turn.

Queens: They're just like us! Before Queen Elizabeth II was busy running Great Britain, she was just a little girl, you know. In honor of Her Majesty's 87th birthday on April 21, we revisit a simpler time in her life, when her primary concerns were far more minimal than her responsibilities today.

Enter Windsor Castle, June 1940. Fourteen-year-old Elizabeth, then a mere princess, sat by the window with her nose in a book -- remember those? We can certainly relate to an image of a young girl reading for fun and fiddling with her pearls. We're crazy about her lacy Peter Pan collar, which serves as a lovely complement to the then-princess' patterned dress.

As Elizabeth gets older, she shows no signs of slowing down. Nowadays she's a Bond Girl of sorts, is on great terms with fashion designers and still knows how to make a style statement. Queen Elizabeth, enjoy your birthday today -- we hope you have time to squeeze in a good read.

Not Woody Allen Ralph. Now I think this one might be a bit difficult so I'll give a couple more clues. I stated "What do you find a lot of on the beach, then add a "Y". Jewel named a few items found on a beach but she did not add a "Y" to all !! This guy is now 92, so it's been a while since he was active. He is American.... See if that helps.

This guy is a very funny man. Haven't heard from him in many years, but had all his comedy albums in my younger days. Bought tears to my eyes with laughter !!! If you haven't heard him perform, check him out on Youtube.

Sheldon "Shelley" Berman (born February 3, 1925) is an American comedian, actor, writer, teacher, lecturer, and poet. Berman was born in ChicagoIllinois, the son of Irene (née Marks) and Nathan Berman. He is Jewish.

His acting career began with an acting company in Woodstock, Illinois. Leaving Woodstock in 1949, Shelley and his wife Sarah made their way to New York City. Acting jobs, however, were scarce. To make ends meet, Shelley found employment as a social director, cab driver, speech teacher, assistant manager of a drug store, and a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studios. Eventually, Berman found work as a sketch writer for The Steve Allen Plymouth Show.

In 1957, Berman landed his first job as a comedian at Mister Kelly's in Chicago, which led to other nightclub bookings, and a recording contract with Verve Records. His comedy albums earned him three gold records and he won the first Grammy Award for a non-musical recording. He was the first standup comedian to perform at Carnegie Hall. Berman would go on to appear on numerous TV specials and all of the major variety shows of the day.

He starred on Broadway in A Family Affair and continued with stage work in The Odd CoupleDamn YankeesWhere's Charley?Fiddler on the RoofTwo by TwoI'm Not RappaportLa Cage aux FollesPrisoner of Second Avenue and Guys & Dolls.

Berman's voice was used as the inspiration for the voice of Hanna-Barbera cartoon character Fibber Fox, as done by Daws Butler.

All yours Sheba...
