Free camping along the Murray

Hi All

can anyone out there suggest any free camping spots around the Murray River. We appreciate any suggestions

Cheers

You have a pretty big unit there guys - some of the spots on the river can be a bit small - you might be better looking at places like Greens Lake, Corop - there is a sub forum on this site with map of the place - it is only 50k from Echuca - though I am sure someone will come up with a few places on the river.

Good luck, and enjoy!!!

There are some good camping areas along the Murray with sandy beaches around Tocumwal (one even has a long drop toilet & town water but $5 a day).
With a high rig you would have to watch out for low hanging branches and some of the roads in & out can be a bit rough.
If you have never camped along the Murray, be sure not to park directly under river gums as they drop branches without warning.
With a big rig, Jules suggestion of Greens Lake would be a good Plan B.
Cheers - John

Go to any newsagent in the area and buy a special map of the locality for $7 bucks...........will give you names of roads & tracks plus areas for you to camp etc, great value for money as the whole of the Murray has been broken up in this manner. I think the whole lot number about 10, we were only interested in the section around Mildura, so $7 well spent.

It does, but we are in the process of moving, so can`t put my finger on it at present..........but as said previously go to a newsagent and ask about it, which is what we did.

There's a big free camping area at the end of Simmie Road, Echuca. You can camp right on the river and light a camp fire, there's even some pit toilets. There's hardly any available firewood, so you should try and pick some up on the way in.
