Hi Magraret

try the Exhibition Park camp ground (Camps 6 no 723), we stayed there last year, but it depends when you want to be there as it is closed mid feb to early march.

another place to think about might be Bungendore showground (no 697)a bit out of canberra, this one is ok but traveling back and forth may be restrictive

Try Eaglehawk hill... http://www.goseeaustralia.com.au/caravan_park/act/canberra/1635/eaglehawk_holiday_park/accommodation/

Or consider the Riverside Tourist Park in Qbn... quick drive into Canberra from there, and dogs allowed at "Managers discretion".

We have stayed at Eaglehawk park twice in 2012, with dog. Once on ordinary powered site, once with ensuite. Both were fine. Staff very helpful. The first time we stayed there it was teeming with rain and we were glad we were not at the Riverside Park at Queanbeyan (they didn't have a site available that would fit the Coaster). The second time, Eaglehawk was our first choice! It is a huge park, with permanents in one section, and lots of cabins and bunk rooms because they also cater for school tour groups and the like. There were school groups in when we were first there but we didn't find them obtrusive - the rain may have helped there! The small ensuite section is further away from most of the bunk houses. I like it for dog because there is a big grassed area for walks - but roos on there at night.
From Eaglehawk, it is a straightforward run to the city centre and northern parts. It is also not too hard to get to the southern section down the Madura road - being turned into a major road.
