Redciffe showgrounds-closed to smaller vans

I amcoming south for my usual" get away from the wet season " jaunts, and have bought tickets to the Broncos vs Cowboys trial game at Redclffe on Feb8th. So I emailed the council there and was sent this reply. The way I read it is that if your van is below 30ft or you are not a showy or in a caravan club, you can,t stay there.I think it had something to do with unemployed dossing under tarps there. What do you think. Bill

I'd say you've had it Bill.. Looks like the Council have succumbed to pressure from the Caravan Parks in the area...

I dunno about anywhere free in that area, theres a caravan park at Aspley that is sort of all right if you need to be in that area.

Gday...

Unfortunately, it was not pressure from the van parks in the area in this instance. I was there last year, hoping to stay (unsuccessfully) and the caretaker told me it was because of the "impact" and "attitude" and "habits" of short term 'travellers' who stayed. There were also some who continued to overstay their welcome.

If you have opened Bill's attachment, the council have noted other showgrounds in the area continue to provide camping - it is only the Redcliffe one that is affected.

Council decided not to persevere with the 'ongoing maintenance costs'.

Cheers - John

And from reading between the lines the local caravan park can't accommodate vans over 30 ft.
I noticed Caboolture is now 25 a night, we stayed there a few years back, I think it was $100 a week, even at 125 a week its good value as it is close to every thing

Sorry But my son lives in Aspley and say that Caravan park is full of undesirables and the police visit it regularly. There are moves to have it closed because of the issues associated with it. Jen

I stayed there around 2000 and it was mostly permanents then, many were ex crims or mental patients and I had heard later that the police were sick of going there and it was going to be closed and it no longer took tourists, maybe they didn't have another option for the long term permanents.  When we went there in 2000 it was owned by the same owners who had the caravan park on the eastern side of Bribie Island, and both were members of Top Tourist.

I think there was a big 4 in Aspley or nearby which I was told is ok?

That's what I'd be doing...

I would say it is aimed at backpacker whizzbangs (size restrictions) Bill and similar.

You are in a way associated with an event by having tickets and can produce them to back up staying there, they can only ask you to

move on.  I suppose you could cop a fine though if you get some pendantic official.   Good luck with it anyway, I hope you manage to find something.

There is also the 7th Day Adventist park at Dakabin where the rates are reasonable. Camps book in car but pretty sure it is listed but it is definitely available as we were booked in there just before Christmas but had to cancel. They have rules such as no alcohol outside van.

There is another CP at Aspley, Gateway Lifestyle Village, 763 Zillmere Road.  Stayed overnight there earlier this month but $40 per night and they are pet friendly now.  Used to be a Big 4 park until recently.
