A bit of an arvo out

G'day all,

thought I'd have an arvo out, wasn't feeling real wonderfull weekend,

any way decided to go to the Nowra Navy Air / Fleet Museum down at Albatros ...

Was a good experiance  ,I got to sit in a helicopter shell and flew around sydney in their flight sim,

which I did good with and it gave me an idea of what its like for those crazy people out there who build

home flight simulators in there garages and sheds and rooms etc which I will do eventually, one day!!

some pics and a bit of a video for you guys, sorry about the crapyness of the video, iphone cant handle the dark inside the shell

so that was my arvo ,hope you all enjoyed my pics

skyhawk.jpgWhen I was in the Army, many years ago, I got the chance to go up in a Skyhawk trainer. They should have one on dispay, if they didn,t sell them all to the kiwis. Was stopped in going up by the sqaudron CO. Officers can be a pain at times. The pilot called it his "scooter",and the c.o.c.k.pit was rather small.I hit myhead on the canopy.great aircraft.I think they were stationed at Mowra. Bill

 Not this one they didn't

N13-154907A-4G886Delivered to RAN 11/67.
Unloaded from HMAS Melbourne onto Navy barge in Jervis Bay November 23, 1967 then by road to Nowra.
With VF805 01/06/68.
With VF805 02/12/68.
With VF805 29/10/69.
With VF805 01/06/72.
With VF805 08/06/73. With VF805 21/10/76.
With VF805 07/12/76.
Ex. Tasmanex '79, launched from Melbourne August 7 and landed at RNZAF Ohakea, based out of there until August 17 when landed back on the Melbourne.
Rolled off deck of HMAS Melbourne 24/09/79, during storm 355km east of Australia when ship suddenly rolled 20 degrees to starboard.
Aircraft came free from chains when aircraft was being repositioned.
Maintenance sailor in ****pit ABATWL Eric R. Krenn suffered lacerations but managed to get clear.
Thrown lifebuoy and joined in water by diver.
Both picked up by HMAS HOBART (DDG 39).

Incidentally, I witnessed a novell way to land an A4 in Townsville when one of our Jandal wearing mates landed one shiny side down when it aquaplaned after a rainstorm, and blew a tyre. Actually it was lucky he didn't catch up to the lead aircraft in the tandem landing, as he definitely accellerated once he started to plane on the water. Here is a pic I found on the www of the incident

What do they say about any landed you can walk away from? Looks expensive! I don,t think the kiwis havean air force any more. Most of them have move to OZ, anyway. By the way, Milo, is the museum at Hmas Albatros, and when is it open?I will be down that way next month. Bill
