Humbled, upset and just 'wow' really

So I'm humbled in that,"yep, sorry folks if my dogs have pissed you off at happy hour"  I've taken it on board. And no offence, I'll happily chill out alone if I don't want to leave my dogs.

wot has totally crushed me in the last 24 hours, is my rottie x being attacked yet again by a Staffy at my local off leash dog park.

my rottie x is 32kg of muscle and not a mean bone in his body with other dogs or people. He loves kids and kids love him. Not one bad incidence in  all his years, despite his potential to be a 'mean, lean, fighting machine'

However.

He's 13 now, arthritic (I have to lift him into and out of the car) but always a happy demeanor.

yesterday, he was attacked yet again by friends staffie dog  at the off leash dogpark. It has happened numerous times by their dog. And not just to my dog. Unfortunately, as my dog gets older, he, like me, has less tolerance. He fought back. I have  noticed this in the last 12 months. He seems to have zero tolerance to being attacked, when he used to walk away, like a ****y bugger ;) I think he thought "I'm the man".

I am starting to leash him now, in an off leash area when I think he may be threatened.

I dared to suggest their dog was aggressive. They insisted their dog was not aggressive, merely playing. So I said that my dog had puncture wounds.

long story short, when i refused, for once in my life to back down against a friend, they said they were going to call the cops.

i was fine with that.  Perhaps because I also said I would be wearing my steel capped boots from now on, and launch their dog the next time It attacked mine.

it continued via text message, which I am grateful for.  I have evidence.

the purpose of this post?

at no time have they admitted that their dog is aggressive. They are in complete denial.

Denial is the key word.

this couple have sent me about 20 text messages. I keep responding with, "this isn't an attack on you, it's about your dog"

i ranted on facebook, and a friend of 5 years ago messaged me to say how sorry she was that her Great Dane attacked my Labrador so many times.  I stopped going to that off leash park then. In the end the Great Dane attacked a dog so badly, the owners were warned and never went back. She admitted she couldn't see her dog was aggressive, back then.

How can you not see that?

My Lab still freaks out when she sees a Great Dane.

The moral of the story?

i dont know really!! Apart from, most dog owners are great! Apart from the ones in denial. And I reckon most travellers, GN's, etc are great.

Oh, Sally - poor Olly - hope he is ok - give him a stick from me!!!! Olly is so gentle for such a big dog - a real sweety!

As for the other dog - council will investigate if you contact the ranger, and the people can be issued a fine and an order to keep their dog muzzled in public, neighbours or ours had to put a sign on their gate warning of "savage dog", after several attacks on their property, and when out walking.

Triple333 I for one fully understand that you prefer to relax in your own camp rather than leave your dogs alone. I don't have companion animals only to abandon them whenever human company is on offer.

And I hope your dog didn't get badly hurt in the attack. A 13yo rottie is about equivalent to a  90yo human isn't it? Nobody would consider it OK to physically assault an elderly person, so WTF are the staffie owners on about. Friends like that you don't need mate!

To be honest, I'm seriously nervous of rotties, and I have a tiny brainless dog that attacks big dogs so I have to keep him restrained at all times when there are other dogs around because I prefer to keep him neatly wrapped in undamaged skinbiggrin.

But you obviously love your dogs, and  I think that says good things about you. The breed of dog you have is up to you. I haven't always had the breed that best suits my lifestyle because my lifestyle changed from time to time and my dogs are not a fashion item.

Don't let the b*****ds get you down or put you off doing the things that you want to do.

I'd much rather have a nice old dog sit quietly beside its owner and happily wag its tail in greeting than listen to some misery-guts whinge about the world, or some half tanked bloke scratch his balls with the hand that's not holding his cigarette.

I know who I'd be asking to stay home.

Judith,

Your vitriol is amazing. I do feel sorry for you as your life is so obviously compromised.

 Good answer, Rosie!

Your comments are a disgrace Judith but then we couldn't expect any more from a web troll like you.

She has been in trouble before and I can't understand why webmaster just doesn't get rid of her.
She is making people cranky and sure as hell if we keep going at her we will be the ones in trouble .
When you see her name as posting something do not even bother to read it.
mongrel.

I'm curious Judith as to why you are even reading the 'travelling with pets' forum given your obvious disdain of dogs.  Reminds me of stories about Fred Nile stealing the porn magazines from outside newsagents becuase they were so immoral - wonder what he did with all those magazines.

I don't think so Rosie. Judith has not had one positive comment in the very few posts she has ever put on this forum.
I would love to know who she is. Just to see what she looks like. People like that usually have bitter and twisted up faces like a .......... But that's another animal!!

I reckon she's like some of our pollies.... small minded, jumps in with a lot of bluster and not well thought through argument , creates mayhem, and then sticks to that position bespite it being unpopular and even untrue.

Still, it is entertaining and if she joins the right party, she might even get re-elected.

Vote 1 Judith for Prime Minister.
