Call into a Centrelink Office and pick up a handful of Rent Assistance forms. When you stay at a Caravan Park, have the Reception complete and sign the form. Drop the forms off as you travel at any Centrelink Office. Note that no rent assistance is payable if you fortnightly rent is less that $110.00.

Yep rent assistance is available if you are on the pension. As above you get a certain percentage back. We simply go on line, change our address and the system works it all out for you. Just need to fill in their standard rent assistance form, easily downloaded for Centrelink site, get the form signed off by the park management, and send it off to Centrelink, or if passing a Centrelink office, drop it in.

The only annoying thing is that every time you change your address, you will be bombarded per post with a new pension card. I have spoken to Centrelink 132300, and they said that the issuing of a new card is the nature of the beast, and can't be changed. They (Centrelink) will keep on paying the rent  assistance until such times you either advise them you are not there anymore, or you change your address. Then it all starts again.

I find by going on line it is so easy.

I didn't know about the issuing of a new pension card each time you change address. Isn't that a little crazy if you're changing every week or so? Surely Centrelink has a card for people with no fixed address.

If in one spot for more than a week or so we claim it but have found if moving around often, it is just not worth the hassles.

Just make sure you tell them when you move as we omitted this for a few weeks once, and got hit with a pay back order ! We had still stayed in parks but only one nighters here and there as we traveled.

I also find that contacting them to update details can be a real pain sometimes. I know the new website is supposed to make it easier though.



Does anyone else claim when they are only park hopping and not staying in one place for a week or more, if so what is the best procedure ?

How do you send the form online ? do you do the hard copy then scan it into the pc ?

We also went into a country agency once for a rent form and they said they couldn't give me one and I would have to go into a main office ! bit awkward sometimes when you have a 30' 5th wheeler in tow and are not staying in that town !

Their phone system is diabolical, especially for those of us with just mobiles, you get put on hold for ages and can almost hear the phone meter clicking dollars as you wait.

With so many nomads now on the road you would think the system would have a simple fair way of doing it. When all is said and done we just want to do the right thing.

You an register online easily. Department of Human Services now encourage you to register MyGov account which covers Centrelink and Medicare. Once registered, you can check your payments, have letters sent to you online plus other things you can do.  Here is the link:
