How many other folk out there have had a gutfull of those damn ads that want you to take out funeral Ins ? They suggest that we don,t leave our kids with debt !! Er..hello any parent of 60 plus that owns their home will be giving the said child or children at least $ 300k.How many of you nomads over 65-70 got a big inheritance off your mum or dad ?. I am not saying that you have to be wealthy but clearly it will only occur when the last parent falls off the perch so if your only asset is your van and car well I.m sure that will cover the said costs .Plus if you have a enough in your bank A/C when you drop off your kids are able to access funeral costs immediately . My kids keep reminding me to be nicer to them cause cause they get to pick the nursing home for me if Req !. Cheers John

I have heard, and please don't quote me that there is a huge difference in various products and what you get for your money. Some of the so called plans cost so much after a few years as you grow older that the cost is exorbitant and cannot be paid . Then you lose the lot. The whole area is a minefield and needs a very careful appraisal before you sign up.
I have Funeral Insurance because I have nothing and if I go first I don't want my wife burdened, for the same reason I have life insurance. Both expensive but the only alternative is to sock some away every week, that would never work for me. At least now with funeral insurance you can cap the payments.
But you are right Moama they are bloody annoying and so are the all those infomercials that are on tele in the we small hours. You can only see half hour of steam cleaners or stone wear cooking stuff

If people are concerned and want to have things organised, isn't it cheaper to pay for your funeral up front , rather than the endless insurance policy. My mother prepaid hers and the costs was deducted each fortnight from her pension and the balanced paid when she die, which was not much..

A friend's wife died recently and as a pensioner he was given almost $3000 by Centrelink to cover the funeral costs. He opted for a cremation with no service.
As to adverts, when I first heard those screaming Hardly Normal ads years ago, and others that adopted the same aggressive hard-sell, I turned off commercial TV and have never been back. I watch ABC, and that's all. I don't listen to commercial radio either.
Yep I,m with you Neil and Raine , fair dinkum I could strangle that pommy shiela that flogs that stuff they are such a pain the a$# .Plus I totally agree with your future plans .... well done. Me... well ...what can I say ..my wife knows what a I want and she has said what she wants ...so.. one of us clearly will be carrying out the last wishes of the other.[unless of course we have had a blue and I am pissed off with her !] LOL. Cheers Westy
